Abstinence is clearly %100 effective, but very few people find it an attractive option. Abstinence education on the other hand is actually counter-productive. |

Ugh. Men, you need to lay the drat off dictating around women's bodies. Idgaf if you think life begins at conception. Fetuses that are not viable outside of the womb should not have more drating rights than the woman (or, potentially child) carrying it. And nobody is "pro-abortion," because abortion is traumatic and painful, but sometimes medically necessary. Women get abortions for their own reasons, and it's their choice to do so, as per the law. Now stfu and move along. |

If life begins at conception, that opens up an arguement for charging women for murder as they spontaneusly abort? If no, why not? Would that be sillier than not informing about contraception? Abtstinence might have worked in the past, what with no Kate Upton videos to enrage the already twitchy hormones of our common teenager. I honestly don't belive that works in our sexualized (is that a word?) community. Just educate the kids! What's the harm in teaching them about sex? About contraception? And about VD and it's dangers? What's the harm!? |

The politians & people who are anti choice are the same peoria who are voting to cut down funding for social welfare programme, that help single mothers and impoverished children.
It's. not just giving birth to a child. Someone then has to ensure that. child is fed. Healthy, educated & functioning member of society. In almost all cases that someone is the Mother.
If that woman for whatever reason is not willing to do just that for a period of 18 years at length then it's her decision to keep the child or. Of.
It's. a good judgement that saves the society from mal adjusted & sometimes criminally harmful individuals who have not had the benefit of committed care and nurturing from an adult. |

Don't conservatives understand that this whole controversy has been blown up and stretched for a week so you can all make these crazy supporting statements and drive home the point that Republicans are out of touch with society? That stench isn't something that can be washed away in two months. Everyone that believes like you is already voting Republican. It's the Independants that you are loosing with your extreme rhetoric. No-one would have an abortion if they believed they were killing a human being. It's not black and white like that.
You say a fertilised egg is a human being, I don't. I believe it is one until it attains consciousness around 6 months in. I'm not for murder, I just have a different definition of a human being to you.
I know you're smarter enough to understand that. There is no point arguing that it is murder if the person you're arguing with doesn't consider what they are doing kills someone.
The only way to convince a pro-choice person: convince them that it is a human being from the off. Not the potential to be a human, actually a human. |

Abortion is a horrible form of contraception and 97% of the time that's the only reason it's done.

That said, Akin isn't an assh*le so much as he is ignorant. And, I guess, speaking on a subject you don't understand can make you somewhat of an ass.
He's probably heard that a woman's body will respond differently to unwanted sexual contact than it will to consensual sex. This is true. A woman's vagina doesn't loosen up properly to accommodate a forcible rapist's penis, which causes tissue damage that can be found after the fact (there are obviously other ways rape can occur where this doesn't happen, so it's not 100% proof positive). Akin somehow came to mistakenly believe that the body's response (or, rather, lack thereof) to rape also provided protection against insemination. This is something that actually does happen in certain species of animals--Ducks, for one.
The point is that he was wrong, but it wasn't out of sheer inexplicable stupidity or malice. He's a person, and people make mistakes. It's a good thing that in modern times we have the ability to call h |
