Well it happened, I was there. The fact remains that a killer could chose almost anything as a weapon. I doubt that fewer people have choked on pot brownies than regular brownies. And it is highly likely that they didn't report it. Seriously, I had a very bad time. |

@patch - I agree, that mass shooting would have been a huge challenge, but some people are very accurate and well trained (there were military personnel in there). I would rather have taken my chances, even if innocent people were shot, they would have been shot by the murderer.
@keith - name one place where NOBODY but the cops have guns.....it doesn't happen. Criminals usually prefer to get their weapons illegally, anyway, because then you can't trace it. |

@johnkelley: I see your point, I was talking more-or-less exclusively about mass shootings, because in a place like a dark movie theatre you'd be much more likely to shoot an innocent person rather than the attacker. However on a non-mass shooting crime you're right in that it's much more likely your gun would be useful. |

I don't know what your states are doing/not doing, but, here in Texas you must pass an FBI and State background check to purchase a weapon. You must pass those AND not be delinquent in state taxes or child support, you cannot be indicted on anything above a class c misdemeanor, you cannot have a class a or b misdemeanor in the past five years or a felony...EVER. You must not be chemically dependent and you must be capable of sound decision making, which means no rehab or anger management in your life. You must not be subject to a protective order or restraining order. Much more goes into being eligible to have a CHL...isn't that enough? We require you have a clean record to purchase a weapon, what more do you want? I don't like my freedoms being taken away, and taking guns away from good people CERTAINLY won't solve the problem and/or take them from the bad people. |

There are plenty of news stories where shops are being robbed and the robbers get shot by CHL Holders. Recently, a senior citizen in Miami, FL did it. Mass shootings aren't the only times that handguns are used...legally or illegally. Kevlar doesn't make a bullet not hurt, you can still be knocked down and it is a guarantee you will have a bruise. |
