Saturday, August 11, 2012 11:32:18 AM @Angilian-Never had English brown sauce, but I'm guessing it's very similar to American steak sauce from the ingredients you listed. |

Saturday, August 11, 2012 2:02:13 AM So is 'brown sauce' gravy? No...although now you mention it that would make sense. For no reason that I'm aware of, gravy isn't considered to be a sauce. Brown sauce is a slightly spicy, slightly fruity sauce. I've no idea what's in it, so I'll look it up... ...well what do you know, it's mostly tomatoes too. Doesn't taste like tomatoes. From the manufacturer's website for HP brown sauce (the de facto standard brown sauce): Tomatoes, Malt Vinegar (from Barley), Molasses, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Dates, Modified Cornflour, Rye Flour, Salt, Spices, Flavourings, Tamarind

Friday, August 10, 2012 11:40:25 AM And yes, I'm over 10 and I sometimes eat tomato sauce. Usually when I have chips. Salt, vinegar, tomato sauce. Not healthy, but tasty. |

Friday, August 10, 2012 11:37:44 AM If you call ketchup tomato sauce what do you call sauce you put on pasta??? Tomato sauce. They are both sauces made mostly from tomatoes - they're both tomato sauce. Although here in England it's also common to just call it 'red sauce' to differentiate it from 'brown sauce', the other traditionally common condiment. There's a fairly famous satirical description of England as having dozens of religions but only two sauces. Probably said by a French person, since it's poking fun at English cooking. Ah, got it. "England has forty-two religions and only two sauces." Voltaire. |

Friday, August 10, 2012 9:23:21 AM Hey lostinkorea Ketchup is only the biggest selling condiment in North America and trust me when I say adults would NOT spend billions of dollars on one particular food for ingrates under 10!!!!!! Ketchup ...along with coffee ...is one of the elixirs of life !!! Have you ever had BBQ ribs? Pulled pork with BBQ sauce? Glazed Chicken ? Most have those sauces have a base of Ketchup.

Friday, August 10, 2012 6:41:25 AM HAHA - Aussies call it Tomato Sauce. My Aussie bud came to Canada - I took him to a burger joint, he asked the Hairy Italian cook for Tomato Sauce on his burger, the cook looked at him and said "Tomato Sauce?? What do you want me to do - squeeze the F**king Tomatoes??" |

Friday, August 10, 2012 1:50:56 AM "This is why I always shake up the bottle first. Also, best to shake it with the bottle opening down." So do I, but after an unfortunate incident when I was a kid that left our kitchen wall looking like some scenery out of a horror film and me with a smack round the head, I always check first to make sure the cap is screwed on tight now. |

Thursday, August 09, 2012 11:14:45 PM I'm with Sarah. You get ketchup juice as a kid and you learn to shake before you pour.
