Brand a 'P' for prisoner on their forehead (kind of like the swastika in Inglorious Bastards). It will always remind them of what they are and will let the world know what they are and what you may expect from them. |

Has making them wear pink really become an "inhumane" punishment? Do they have to wear a manly color to make it just? This is a fine way to rehabilitate, though other things may be considered objectionable. |

As long as they have easy access to potable water I won't have a problem. Texas prison inmates, on the other hand, don't have such access and the temperatures are A LOT hotter. |

On top of which punishments tend to be slow and unpredictable. So yes a lot of laws on the books that simply shouldn't be, and of course punishments too harsh and wasteful. |

punishment in general does not work...unless of course you think our "correctional" system does such a great job of detering repeat offenders.
sorry but our prison system is the worst form of correction possible and it is because we WANT to punsish crimminals rather than actually correct the behavior.
other countries have taken a different approach with amazing results to reducing repeat offensive to near zero but in 'Merica we have to punish and get revenge for being wronged. part of the violent culture we are. |

That Russian prison you are thinking about, it's for cannibals and serial killers doomed never to see daylight or have any meaningful human communication until they die. You can't afford that for the general prison population. However attractive you find it, it's just not cost-effective to roll it out.

I heard about the pink prison uniforms and I think the initial reason it was done was to embarrass the inmates. I saw a show about it too where they said pastel colors have a calming effect on people so I think that was what they used for their argument to make the inmates wear pink uniforms. |

I for one would like to see prision using dogs more it makes sense. Take a look at Russian prisions and the dogs they use looks pretty effective. That and they seperate inmates so they can't form gangs. |

Maricopa County in Arizona. Famous Sherrif Joe instituted the pink underwear and stripes rule. He also set up tent cities in the desert to house criminals. The TV only gets 2 channels, Disney & Sherrif Joe reading from classic books.
And Yes, these tactics work. Repeat offender crimes has dropped drastically. They've been taken to court many times citing un airconditioned tents as "cruel and unusual" punishment. Sherrif Joe pointed out our troops in Afghanastan & Iraq suffered hotter temperatures in full battle gear with no shade. The prisoners can at least lie in the shade of their tents. He has won every court challenge.
Prison should not be a pleasant place. |
