oldollie never seen pc's from the inside? it's a Dell, form factor BTX... the first Dell BTX mainboards were pentium 4.
BTX has an airflow tunnel, it's opened here.

thats nothing i have opend up a laptop full of catpiss once , and another one was full of baby puke... i refused to fix either laptop |

Why in the hell don't computer manufacturers put in a damned lint screen like the one on the dryer? It ain't that hard. Hell if they were *really* smart, they'd incorporate a Damned Air Filtration System with a removable element. Meh. |

I used to tear-down and rebuild PCs and such for an electronics recycling firm in our community. You'd be surprised what you find. I've seen many a computer like this and worse. Nothing like showing up bleary eyed early on a Monday morning to find a mummified mouse or other small mammal in the housing to get your week going.

Had to service a supermarket's POS pc's once - discovered they'd all been set up with the extraction vents against the side of the cupboard. They looked pretty much like this picture, but with more flakes of onion skin. |

we had one get this bad or worse when i was little. living in a 100+ year old house in the country with 4-10 dogs in the house 24/7 as well as turtles, birds, iguanas, rabbits, cats, etc, will do that to a pc in a few years. PSU got so hot it caught fire |

I opened my comp the other day and was expecting something like this.
Other than some dustballs stuck in the ventilation the cabinet was actually kinda clean.
I now have a new "respect" for people who actually manage to get it as dirty as on the picture. |

Smoker most likely. But as mentioned before, very poor airflow design, the air is supposed to go through the fins of the heatsink
