Friday, August 03, 2012 11:35:44 AM If you accept evolution, all humans are related to a common ancestor with a chimp.. So why do blacks take offense when we are all related? Because they look "similar" thats very subjective.. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 10:50:44 AM That commercial was obviously made long before Gabby won and would have aired regardless of who won. It's aired multiple times since I've been watching the coverage and this is just people seeing whats not there. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 10:21:05 AM You know, I saw that when it aired and I never even thought about making that connection. Some people have too much time on their hands. The ad was set to air in that spot long before they knew who would win. Maybe they could have made a last minute change but it's not really as easy as that. The advertisers choose when they want their ads to run and pay accordingly. Even if the network chose to move it for some reason, they would have to make amends for not airing it at the right time. Move along morons and go find some other tin hat obsession. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 9:41:37 AM MeGrendel, I agree. As I said, I think it was just IDIOTIC placement of the ad, not the ad itself. It doesn't matter what ad is next. It doesn't matter if it was on purpose, it was really, really bad. Now, for everyone saying it's racist or not, only blacks can say. Non-blacks, by the very virtue of them not being black, can't say if it's a racist placement or not. It's like, I say all the time that Christians shouldn't be offended by gay marriage. It doesn't affect them, the law in no way has ANYTHING to do with their rights, but, me saying that all I want OBVIOUSLY doesn't mean poo. They're offended anyway. So, as a non-Christian, me saying they shouldn't be offended, no matter if I'm logically right or not, has no effect over how Christians perceive it. Same here. If you aren't black, you can't judge whether or not this ad and/or its placement was racist. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 9:33:50 AM Only liberals think it's racist because they are the ones who reflexively equate blacks with lower primates. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 9:21:49 AM Some are calling racist? Who? That would be prett stupid. Ads are not linked to specific news stories. The only way this would be racist is if there was a policy to show monkeys every time African Americans were mentioned. Now, if everytime they reported a British gold it was followed by an ad for dental care, that would be racist. Or if French golds were followed by a monkey with a white flag in one hand a a lump of brie in the other. Or Greek's with ads for bankruptcy lawyers. (OK, the last one would just be taking the piss.) |

Like I been preachen here at IAB... no matter what you do or how inclusive you are you're gonna get accused of "racism" by one overly-sensitive type or another so you might as well just own and say "Yeah, I'm a racist". Is the ad racist? Of course not. But that doesn't matter does it. The acusaztion has been made, the "offensive" company now has to go on the defensive, appologize, pull the ad, etc etc etc. |

Friday, August 03, 2012 8:43:04 AM SmagBoy1-"most assuredly an IDIOTIC placement for that ad." Not at all. That ad was next in the rotation, that's all. It had been shown plenty of times. And they can't say it repesents Gabby at all, as WOMEN DO NOT PERFORM ON RINGS in the Olympics. (I was rooting for Gabby last night, was happy she won the gold. One of the cutest girls we have there.) |
