Wednesday, August 01, 2012 3:05:28 AM Disgusting. Please, please, PLEASE get me out of this country. There will always be criminally dangerous people. For every piece of technology that the police use to invade our privacy, the real criminals are finding a way around it. All that's left are law abiding citizens still forced to comply with invasive, wasteful, and flat out inhumane tactics that they don't deserve. If you're going to invest time and money into anything, invest in police training. Most of those sh*theads seem to have absolutely atrocious priorities and even worse situational judgement. Although they aren't entirely to blame...their districts force money-grabbing quotas down their throats. Citizens are now just money opportunities. The police and the general public should always be on the same side, but I think most people are starting to realize that's not the case... |

Monday, July 30, 2012 9:19:23 PM How is detecting a gun on someone solving crime? THAT is a very good question @TheYoYoGuy! I eagerly await the politicians telling us an answer! Waiting... still waiting... @Musuko42: I'm fairly certain that they EMIT some sort of radiation that bounces OFF your body, and from items UNDER your clothes too. "Bet The Farm" certain, eh? BTW: I wish you'd make even the TINYEST attempt at research before supporting the Nazis, eh? Sadly that's typical for you... |

Monday, July 30, 2012 7:04:04 PM @Forplay2k "This is a search without a warrant." If I understand this correctly, the radiation they are detecting is radiation that your body is naturally sending out at all times. They are not searching you. They are just interpreting the information your body is broadcasting. It is no more of a search than seeing the light reflected off the skin, or the audio waves that come out of your mouth. You could claim that it's invasion because they are using a machine to detect something that human senses could naturally not detect. But does that then mean that all cameras or microphones or explosives particle detectors are an invasion? It's right and correct to be wary about new technology and their possible abuses. But we have to be careful not to make a big fuss over things that are actually benign; otherwise we end up ignored like the boy who cried wolf when something ACTUALLY evil rears its head. |

Monday, July 30, 2012 3:50:10 PM Yep, another politician trying to convince us that we should sacrifice another freedom for our own safety. Another invasion of privacy where, in his eyes, the ends justify the means. |

Monday, July 30, 2012 3:00:19 PM doh, people are so talking about orwellian societies coming, but the reality is that it was in place, ironically, in 1984. After all, they were using actors as the leaders by then. If anyone thinks 'were getting there' or 'it's coming'.. take the blinders off, because it's here. |

Monday, July 30, 2012 8:17:24 AM I was mistaken. It looks at terahertz radiation, so it's like an infrared camera that looks at much shorter wavelenths in the range of 0.1mm-1mm. Water also blocks the scan, so wear a water suit and you're good. XD |

Monday, July 30, 2012 7:24:46 AM and yet crime rates are unaffected. Actually your crime rates have been dropping steadily since the early '90s. |

Monday, July 30, 2012 7:20:26 AM I'm still trying to figure out how the radiation doesn't penetrate a gun but will penetrate the metal sheeting of a vehicle. Well I'm assuming they point the detector through a window in the van. This likely works on some isotope of organic molecules like carbon-14, nitrogen-15, or less likely oxygen-18. My money would be on C-14. |

Monday, July 30, 2012 5:04:44 AM Seeing this video reminded me that I need to water my cactus. Oh and sew in some aluminum into my jacket. I don't understand the logic. We created devices that consistently infringe on our civil liberties and yet crime rates are unaffected. This isn't something we should just live with. I'm still trying to figure out how the radiation doesn't penetrate a gun but will penetrate the metal sheeting of a vehicle. Science is strange. |

Sunday, July 29, 2012 8:12:12 PM After a shoot out police always claim that the person shot at looked like he was reaching for a gun ( remember the wallet guy) With this detector, on close range that excuse is taken care of. And people do not look naked! |

Sunday, July 29, 2012 8:06:40 PM "...use the devices in limited circumstances..." HAHAHAHA! Oh the Gov't, they so funny! @Rick_S: They can already track every step you take on a street, map your movements by your cellphone, THAT is how they know who you associate with. THIS gizmo will look at your posessions and, if the Cops don't like what they see? They'll move in... legally of course! To protect the children... |

Sunday, July 29, 2012 7:20:32 PM It seems pretty practical and good to me. It's not like it can do really any harm. |
