Whatever does, or doesn't happen afterwards, the fact is that he cared enough to go and do it - whether people choose to exploit it, read into it whatever they will is irrelevant.
You cannot run around worrying about how someone will interpret your good deeds and talking yourself out of them - just go ahead and do it. If you do it for the right reasons in your heart, screw what anyone else thinks. Good on him. |

He could do that everyday for the rest of his life, it wouldn't change my opinion of Bale. Remember him screaming at the "worthless" guy on set who dared to interrupt him. |

Warner Bros said Bale was there of his own accord, nothing to do with the studio. Bale did it secretly as he didn't want any media there. All these photos are from camera phones and such.
Maybe, just maybe, he did it because he cares? |

Doesnt matter if he went in with camera crews, or if he went in off his own conscience. It's still a HUGE marketing opportunity, that the studios wont even need to do anything with.
People will see Christian Bale do this, and think "aww. what a great guy", then think they must go watch the movie to show their appreciation. |

@tedgp I kinda disagree, it's not like he went in there with camera crews or paparazzi or whatever to make a public scene.. This was obviously just taken on a cellphone. It seems like a truly genuine attempt to do something decent. Respect, Mr. Bale, Respect. |

A small act, but at least one actor does something half way nice in the midst of a cruddy situation... not meaning that as bad to the other actors, just to make a crappy situation a little less so... kinda :( |
