Monday, July 23, 2012 3:34:31 PM The fact is that crazies are crazy and will find a way to do bad things if that's what they are bent to do. |

Monday, July 23, 2012 3:30:08 PM Semi-auto rifles (not to mention fully auto) are without a doubt a problem. They are strictly used for playing around out of boredom (entertainment), intimidating others (usually other criminals), and this. No citizen should expect a constitutional right to bear a semi-auto rifle. They serve no purpose beyond what I stated. And as a law abiding person why shouldn't I be able to go to a range or out in the country and shoot at a target for entertainment? One could say that the movie they were watching was just for entertainment as well and served no other purpose but to expose them to baddies, we should ban those too. Sweets kill more people than guns in the US and they serve no purpose but to entertain our mouths, we should ban those too. I could make a whole list. Then there's the fact that were there no such thing as guns the nutter would have gone on a stabbing spree or made a bomb with fertilizer and other normal things anyone can get. Maybe we should ban fertil |

Monday, July 23, 2012 11:53:41 AM @Scuzoid I doubt you own any firearms otherwise you'd know it's very hard to get full auto weapons in the US already. |

Monday, July 23, 2012 11:48:31 AM What on earth would any private citizen need with that kind of ammunition? Buying in bulk saves money tons of people order a bunch of ammo online for that very reason. I own an AR-15 it's a fantastic target rifle it's killed no one guns are not the problem people are the fact you don't like something dosen't mean it should be banned....

Sunday, July 22, 2012 11:11:06 PM @Scuzoid: I overlooked the fact that he had a 100 round mag. The mag is the problem in that case, not the weapon. |

Sunday, July 22, 2012 9:28:18 PM I missed this discussion when it was going on. For some reason, I feel like Auburn has never held an m-16/ar-15. Semi-auto rifles have no place in the public sector. Period. 100 round mags have no place in the public sector. Period. This is assuming the gun was even semi-auto as I'm not sure. Regardless of whether it was semi or full, I can unload that full mag in two minutes. Semi is, in my opinion, more dangerous in the hands of a novice as Holmes appeared to be, than full as he could've come close to that same fire rate without having to deal with the constant recoil of full. I own a number of weapons. What I don't own are full auto handguns or semi auto rifles. These weapons are NEVER about protection and survival as a civilian. They're about intimidation, entertainment, and slaughter. None of which should be legally defended. Here's waiting for the ballistic report that shows he unloaded that mag. |

Sunday, July 22, 2012 8:44:28 PM @tedgp. You allege that Holmes announced his intent on 4chan prior to carrying out his massacre. Got a screencap of the thread, or a link to the thread if it was archived ?? As they say, pics, or it didnt happen... |

Sunday, July 22, 2012 12:47:26 PM Okay Ted. I'll bite. People who say that Pearl Harbor was known and allowed, say it was to coerce the American people to allow entry into WWII. To sway popular opinion and convince Congress to allow for a declaration of war. People who say that 9/11 was known and allowed, say it was to coerce the American people to allow entry into Iraq and Afghanistan. To sway popular opinion and convince Congress to allow for a declaration of war. How is it a dumb correlation again? It's a direct correlation.

Sunday, July 22, 2012 7:54:16 AM Holmes used a military-style semi-automatic rifle This is a misleading statement. He used an AR-15. These are available to the public, because they are simply rifles. They are hyper accurate, but in the end, it is just a rifle. Saying it is military style, is just anti-gun spin. Anyone can buy one, and use it to hunt. The most deadly weapon the guy had was the shotgun. Think about what a shotgun can do, indoors, in a closed in environment. You actually have to aim with the AR, but that's the weapon being focused on. I would surmise that over 50% of actual bullet strikes were done with the shotgun. |

Sunday, July 22, 2012 7:13:55 AM "Mr. Oates said Holmes used a military-style semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun and a pistol to open fire on the unsuspecting cinema-goers. He had bought the weapons at local gun stores within the last two months and recently purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet. Holmes also bought an urban assault vest, two magazine holders and a knife for just over 300 dollars (£192) on July 2 from an online supplier of tactical gear for police and military personnel, according to the company." |

Sunday, July 22, 2012 5:17:27 AM How is it possible to purchase 6000 rounds of ammunition, military gear, knives and etc.. off the internet without any red flags? ---------- Simple. Don't buy it from one source. Make sure you get it couriered, and don't order it all at the same time. Since this guy announced on 4chan a day or so before the shootings happened, it can be ascertained that he acquired the ammunition from less than reputable sources. Sources that simply dont question why he wants the product, they just want the money.
