Wednesday, July 18, 2012 3:55:16 PM It's a perfect square with a cross bar connecting the 2 upright blocks at the top and the bottom. Except the left pole has a board coming out at the angle like this \ which is causing the optical illusion, and theres also stubs on the bottom of the right pole and top of the left pole.... check the shadow of it.. put the camera in the right position.. presto! optical illusion. it would fail if a pair of eyes was looking at it tho, or a 3d camera.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 3:10:42 PM Seconds. too easy. The rotating mask is better. Harder to rationalize when your brain keeps flipping it one way.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 1:02:39 PM bacon-pie "fake, gay, and photoshopped" While I can't speak to the inanimate object's sexual preference your other two statements are false. Unless perhaps the levels or saturation were altered slightly. The middle cross beam comes out perpendicular from the two vertical beams. It is just cut in a way that from that exact angle it lines up visually with the edge of the far vertical beam. Look at the shadow for reference. See how it passes the bottom cross beam? |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 12:25:51 PM @cityncolor, optical illusions are related to how the brain works, people study how the brain works, I'd say it does related to science. |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 10:16:05 AM this is not "science"... this is an optical illusion... closer to art. definitely not science. |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 8:29:22 AM "there are a few people who like to build impossible structures as a hobby" This is clearly the case. The shadows give it away as a real object that is built to work in a specific perspective, just as you mention. |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 7:47:46 AM Well done. The shadow of the second cross beam down gives away how it was done though. |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 7:44:35 AM It's better looking when you can't see the shadows. Perspective! |

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 7:29:17 AM These days "cg" pops into one's mind with something like this, but there are a few people who like to build impossible structures as a hobby. Like modern sidewalk chalk art, they are totally distorted in anything but one view. Just, y'know, passin' that on. |
