Tuesday, July 17, 2012 12:37:32 PM "Secondly, what makes you think they skin them alive? As a person who has skinned several animals (for food and furs), I can tell you that even the thought of attempting to skin something while it is alive is counterproductive. Killing the animal first makes the task infinitely easier." There has been video of animals skinned alive, or at least not fully dead yet in china, however I've also seen footage of the same from america, russia, various other places. Sometimes people are tw@ts, it has nothing to do with country of origin, they are just horrible individuals. |

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 6:01:14 AM The worst part is he is charging 10 kuai for them. That's £1. Far too expensive! |

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 1:41:56 AM @RobSwindol - "what makes you think they skin them alive?" Apparently the fur stays in better condition, China do in fact allow live animal skinning as shown in this video (graphic) HERE and Here |

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 12:46:49 AM "I'm by no means racist but I swear that the Chinese have NO sympathy for animals if they do this and are able to skin cats and dogs alive for the fur trade." First off, if you start a sentence with "I'm not racist, but"... then you're probably racist. Secondly, what makes you think they skin them alive? As a person who has skinned several animals (for food and furs), I can tell you that even the thought of attempting to skin something while it is alive is counterproductive. Killing the animal first makes the task infinitely easier. |

Monday, July 16, 2012 9:18:54 PM I'm pretty sure it's the truth. There's been TWO petitions on Care2 to get China to stop selling these live animals (since they most often die). I think it's appalling. I'm by no means racist but I swear that the Chinese have NO sympathy for animals if they do this and are able to skin cats and dogs alive for the fur trade. |

Monday, July 16, 2012 8:19:50 PM Well - there was nothing said about usage. Just that they are 10 kuai (about a buck fifty). People keep little turtles as pets all the time there - I had three. However, whether or not these are being used as keychains does not take away from the fact that there is an appalling lack of respect for life in China. |

Monday, July 16, 2012 8:08:03 PM yeah Rick I get that, so why did things not cost 20 fold less when manufacturing moved over TO China? Don't answer it, it's a rhetorical question |

Monday, July 16, 2012 7:46:22 PM And goldfish in women's shoes are any better? "...so why should it cost a lot more when they move back here. There is already infrastructure" Because there they make less than a dollar an hour, but over here, union employees will make over $20 an hour. |

Monday, July 16, 2012 7:32:39 PM "Live turtles used as keychains in China" Some anonymous blogger said so. It must be true. Until someone on here who speaks Chinese translates I am going to assume the best that these are meant to be taken home and put in a big bowl. Look at the top of the straps - they are way too thin for long wear. I believe that is done on purpose so you don't fling it all around on the way home. |

Monday, July 16, 2012 7:31:21 PM Did anyone notice things costing a LOT LESS when manufacturing quietly moved to China in the 90's ? Exactly, so why should it cost a lot more when they move back here. There is already infrastructure |
