@Squirrelbait - the question was if the scene was "honest" and my answer was "no" because no one would ever unequivocally agree to the statement that the United States is the "greatest" country in the world without some sort of clarification of the assumptions about "greatest" - we have the highest percentage of incarcerated criminals, is that what she meant? No one with any sort of intelligence would claim that any one country is the "greatest" at everything. The scene is dishonest because it is oversimplified hack writing on the part of the characters who answered first with two-word answers (who would ever do that?) in order to further the agenda of Jeff Daniels' character, who is unrealistically portrayed as the only intelligent person in the room, and I find this lazy script writing dishonest.

Must be a TV script: libtards are NEVER going to allow a conservative to speak for more than 3 SECONDS without screaming a "talking point" in interruption...

@LandoGriffin : at no point is there a claim that this is an actual debate and you are presenting a Red Herring to the actual point at hand, which is that often it is stated and believe that the USA is the greatest country, but the facts rattled off there can be looked up and verified. We are not.

FYI - I just attempted to post the 1973 speech by Gordon Sinclair on America....true words.

This is so good it makes my head hurt. I love me some Sorkin.

Every time I hear someone say America is the greatest country on Earth I ask them why. I never get a real answer. I happen to think it is, but not because of stupid trite idioms like "freedom".

The text won't fit in here, but please read what this great Canadian said about America.

I will provide the intro:

The United States dollar took another pounding on German, French and British exchanges this morning, hitting the lowest point ever known in West Germany. It has declined there by 41% since 1971 and this Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least-appreciated people in all the earth.

As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtze. Who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did.

Google, "Gordon Sinclair - The Americans".

It's important and true.

Did you understand ANYHTING the he said or are you seriously just wondering if he's "Joey" from full house?..God, that made you look like a total moron. That was the ONLY thing you got out of this well said speech? Who the hell cares if she is or isn't a "sorority girl" that wasn't the point he was making. The future looks very bleak with minds like this. God save us!

I will explain to some of you... this is an actor, but he is articulating what many of us feel. It's not supposed to be exactly like reality, duh.

Y'all need to do some thinking... and realize that some of your comments are somewhat dumb, and dumber.

This is a show on HBO that one can only hope ever becomes reality. Basically just calling out the outright liars in politics, whether they be liberal or conservative. Jeff Daniels is a registered Republican in this show.

@Naitsirhc88 No that's not Joey from fullhouse. He's Jeff Daniels a.k.a Harry from the movie "Dumb & Dumber". Good actor he is.

And, how does he know she's a "Sorority Girl?" That remark could be demonstratively false, making this statement at least partially dishonest.

First clarification I would make: What do you mean when you say "greatest" - "greatest" by what measurement? We win the most Olympic track and field medals, but do not have the best 100 meter sprinters nor 5k and 10k runners. So, is the U.S. the "best" at track or is Jamaica, with the two best sprinters, or is Kenya with their plethora of marathoners? What do you mean when you say "best" or "greatest?"

Anyway, the tl;dr version: the first two candidates to answer the question would have had legitimate intelligent justification for their views. Unless they are Texas governor Rick Perry, who is a moron.
