Wednesday, July 11, 2012 12:28:57 PM lol,i've seen more than just this picture in my lifetime, and have come to the conclusion that the majority of americans have no or very little taste, i mean just look at those, they're all as you say "high tops" we've not wore those over here since the early 90's, oh i do love winding you lot up, and just because you use long words doesn't make you intelectual if americans were that clever you'd have your own language lol |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 10:31:28 PM The pretentiousness is strong in this post. Why assume that this slimofswiv is a scientist at all? Most people in the world do not draw their conclusions from following the scientific method. Thought that was common knowledge. Yeah it's not right to say all Americans have bad taste because of this one douche bag in this post, but who cares? We all judge, we are all impacted by stereotypes. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 3:02:59 PM DrProfessor, I really do not want to be put in the position of defending that remark. I do not think it is true nor helpful. I agree with you that the original comment did not show evidence of having been achieved via the scientific method. My point was that you had made a speculation on the number of data points Slimofswiv had to go on in forming his opinion. I just wanted to voice an objection to that speculation. That is all. I yield the floor. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 12:06:37 PM @Hamptonimm--Sadly, if you expect any statement to hold weight, you must at the very least refer to the data from which your gather your conclusion. No scientist (of any sort, be it social or physical) is going to accept the statement "trust me, I've seen it somewhere." This was the only actual case that was referred to. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 12:06:09 PM slimofswiv Your statement should have been something more along the lines of, "Some Americans don't share the same tastes as me because we were raised thousands of miles and an ocean apart."

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 11:30:24 AM They are shoes? Surely they aren't THAT expensive- okay £40 a pair is average, but those things need to be stuck through a machine every so often or they fall to bits. My son has to get a new pair every six months because they disintegrate- so this doesn't look that bad? |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 11:01:30 AM DrProfessor, you clearly have no background in reading comprehension. Slimofswiv made a judgment on a group (a stereotype I disagree with) without indicating how he formed such an opinion. While the picture provoked his comment, I would imagine that he has seen or heard of more than one American that led him to form such an opinion. There is no reason to assume this is his only data point. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 10:46:06 AM Slimofswiv--you clearly have no scientific background, so let me explain this to you: you can't determine a trend with only one data point. You need at least two, and even then that's a poor indicator considering the size of the US population. You would want at least a thousand, painstakingly picked from all regions, social groups, and classes. More than that would be even better. Therefore, I'll kindly ask you to sit on it and spin, baby. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:43:59 AM insane. I usually say that about women and their shoes or coach purses... but the sneaker thing is just as insane. I've never paid more then 40 dollars for a pair of shoes in my life. And that amount is rare |
