Tuesday, July 10, 2012 7:48:33 PM @FAKEBACON well since wikipedia is such a great source or reliable information (which by the way, your link doesn't even work) i figured i would give you a direct line from the "shellfish" page... Although most kinds of shellfish are harvested from saltwater environments, some kinds are found only in freshwater. most kinds of shellfish are harvested from saltwater environments most kinds of shellfish most kinds ...sorry for making a general statement. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 12:37:22 PM gerry- it is a pretty BIG island- and if I remember McGuffin is a Scot, they do cold weather food, it's cold and wet up there. Haggis are hard to catch so they need carbs for the chase.... They are quick little buggers. With that Darwinian adaptation of having one leg longer than the other so that they can run round hills whilst staying level with the horizon, they're near impossible to catch without the right "haggis bagging" equipment. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 10:57:37 AM @ MacGuffin - How can you live on a bloody island and not like seafood? I do like sea food. I just require it to be actual fish. Have Haggis Happy Meal and enjoy it. That's just a scurrilous cliche. Our national dish is actually fried Mars Bar. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:59:30 AM Although, to those of you raving about shellfish. I was talking with some marine biologist buddies who were talking about a study that looked at people's taste preference of shellfish. Shellfish tend to collect a lot of toxins and retain them very well. The study sought to compare taste preference of clean raised organisms vs. the usual toxin laden shellfish people are used to. People absolutely hated the clean shellfish. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:02:51 AM @MacGuffin: I don't see how four-legged, furcovered poo machines are any better than the soft flesh bodies of more base sea creatures. Flesh is flesh. I think you're just conditioned to be used to the fur-covered kind.. |

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:01:44 AM "Yeauch!!!! I don't understand how anyone can bear to eat these. Or prawns. Or lobster. Anything that comes out of the sea and resembles a snail, a reptile, an arachnid or an insect is out in my book." Kinda weird that you prefer to eat mammals with big brains and faces. Things that resemble yourself more than a spider. |
