Sunday, July 08, 2012 1:37:19 AM vv @Gerry1: You're a lucky guy to have had such a cool, exotic pet! They are adorable... until they rip your attic apart... (wild ones I mean). |

5Cats - correct. You cannot tame a wild one, but if you raise them, male and female are great. The males will go independant. If you try to keep them when they're ready to leave they'll get agressive so it's best to just let them go when they're ready. The females a good life-long pets. And they're clean. Little shedding. Automatically litterbox trained but without the bad cat odor. cheep to feed - whatever you're having. But you have to child-proof your house. Their little hands can and will get into EVERYTHING. And they can climb to any cupboard height and some have learned to work combo locks. Very clever. |

Saturday, July 07, 2012 10:07:33 AM I've read that you can keep female coons, but the males are untameable after they mature... Kinda like humans! (Of any colour) On the other hand, skunks make good housepets! Again, so I've read... Hummm, I'll just stick with kittehs, thanks. |

@ sutra - according to Wikipedia "roughly 97% of human rabies cases result from dog bites". Admittedly that's in the 3rd world not here. But any wild animal can carry disease. A tame racoon is a safe, wonderful, {high maintenance} pet.

Saturday, July 07, 2012 8:35:46 AM @turd Yep. I typed it pretty much as my brain went back N forth @gerry Rabbies in pet population of dog s is eradicated, when was the last time you heard of a rabid pet dog? Or humans catching an exotic disease from their dog. It don't happen. Coon (meaniing established in context of this post) are famous for biting people and dining at the finest dumps in the neighborhood and the rushing back home to bite people. And they always have some suspect bumps and boils and don't manicure their filthy paws . They are cute though especially when they are stealing.

sutra46, "Coon is a derogatory term for people of colour. That was adorable in the most hicky way. Those animals carry rabies among other horrible diseases. " So do dogs, what's your point. Coons are great pets! {I mean the animal, not coloreds} I raised some growing up with the other 'Hicks'. {again I mean I raised coons, not negros} They're like a cross between a cat and a monkey...racoons are I mean.

Saturday, July 07, 2012 7:15:30 AM vv @MacGuffin I  your new avatar! I knew it was "racoon" because I saw it in the live submissions, and because I try to think people wouldn't be so stupid as to use a racist term in the title (unless is was to be funny! Kinda like this is). |

Saturday, July 07, 2012 12:07:18 AM @Sutra - The way you wrote that comment...It seems like the left and right side of your brain take turns, every other sentence. LOL! I think the racoon just seemed happy to have got the chair. It was a right wee cutie. Amazing what animals can get away with by being cute.

Friday, July 06, 2012 9:41:25 PM In the part of Canada where I live, coon is short for racoon, a destructive pest in both rural and urban areas. This was a cool feature, but the sight of that racoon did trigger the impulse to reach for my 12-gauge...... |
