That was quite easy to understand, though I did get distracted by his mouth noises...

@Gerry & Mikeado - thanks for the extra 'splaining. I still have no idea what it all means. I hope it means in the future we will be able to eat and drink as much as we want without getting fat.

Higgs Boson = Philosophers Stone

That's what I've gathered.

@Oystah - From what I understand of the video, the Higgs Boson makes up the Higgs Field, which gives mass to particles.

So where does the Abominable Snowman come into this snow field theory?

"I started spacing out after he stopped talking about snow."

Okay, some snow flakes are dry and blow away in a flurry.
Others are slow and sticky, they attach to others and make big fat snow balls.

Very interesting but does anyone think he missed his calling in not playing Gandalf in Lord of the Rings.

so like, snow is made of snowflakes? lol but really simple can be so beautiful and this was a very elegant way of explaining it. quantum physics talk always makes those little hairs on the back of neck stick up, i just love it!

I say if the Higgs boson broke the symmetry, it should have to pay for it.

"So it's like a vegetarian and a fat chick.
The vegetarian goes through McDonalds fast and gets nothing while the fat chick moves slower, collects chicken nuggets and gains mass. "

And to clearify, the Higgs Boson is the chicken nuggets. Until now we had no proof or understanding of what it was making that girl fat. All we knew is she went in and got fat while some girls didn't.

"Namely, what the f*ck are the practical uses of this discovery?"

Sounds to me you've never watched Star Trek. We've finally discovered proof of the nature of space and matter itself, and hopefully this will lead to an understanding of some way to use it. It's like you're asking "what good does the theory of gravity do?"

"The human race would still be living in caves if we all thought like you. "

I think he has a question which is still legitimate, and one I haven't heard an answer to... Namely, what the f*ck are the practical uses of this discovery?

Nah this is great stuff really, but until this is incorporated into another episode of big bang theory, nobody will care.

In 1897 when J.J.Thompson discovered the electron he didn't have any practicle use for it. A mere 100 years later and the whole world was run on ELECTRONics.

Science always pays off.

What is most amazing, IMHO, is the scientific evidence of the existence of the Higgs field. In other words, empty space is not empty (see Krauss' The Universe from Nothing), but instead, formless pervasive potentiality. In turn, that sounds just like the centuries old Buddhist notion of the dharmakaya.
