Saturday, July 07, 2012 8:51:09 PM Qystein It definitely contributes. Think of the social ascept of it. It clumps all the below average, average and above average students into the same group and they have to get along socially. If you're smart, you suck. If you're dumb as a brick, you fit in. Or if at least you pretend to be as stupid as the dumb kids. Now I'm not ENTIRELY blaming the public school system, but if I had been in a class with people that had around the same intellegence as me and was taught as such, I would have learned WAY more there and wouldn't have hated school as much as I did. That's just how it was at my school. |

Friday, July 06, 2012 12:54:25 PM @OldOllie did you go to a local library and read up about "everything" ? The school system is meant to help the average, if you are bright your going to make it anyway. You were maybe slightly above average, but not bright. If you were bright then you would have done something. Getting sick and tired of people saying that the school system not seeing them as "geniuses" is the reason their life did not turn out the way they wanted.. |

Thursday, July 05, 2012 10:59:36 PM I hope he does something great with his life. The schools in my day wouldn't let me do anything like this. I was chained at the ankle to everyone else my age, and there was no way in hell they were going to let me get ahead. I was put in a class of 30 kids, 2 of whom couldn't quite keep up, which meant the curriculum was paced for the 3rd dumbest kid in the class, i.e., the 10th %ile. I learned long division the first day they showed it to me. Then I spent the next 4 months doing it over and over and over and over till I hated school like Satan hates holy water. If I were to describe my public education in a word, it would be "negligent" -- in two words, "criminally negligent."

Thursday, July 05, 2012 12:54:22 PM He needs to be subjected to experiences where he is not the best kid at his age, like the choir, thats a good idea, maybe also do some sports. That would help him balance his social life, and make him more accepted among kids his age. |

Thursday, July 05, 2012 12:54:20 PM This is exactly what is wrong with our country. Seemingly endless amounts of money is spent propping up failing students and those that are incapable. Yet, very little money and effort is spent developing those with outstanding potential. |

Thursday, July 05, 2012 8:36:30 AM Good to see his parent's concerns well placed. You hear an awful lot about child prodigies, but they usual flounder as adults who have been crushed by their own highly unrealistic expectations of themselves. |
