This is so sad >.< An obviously desperate man to have burned the house down only to off himself when found guilty of his crime. An elaborate suicide plan to say the least. I wonder what substance he used to die so quickly?

I gotta say, MacGuffin, you've been more crotchety lately than usual.

As for the video... I understand, sometimes, the "if I can't have it, no one else can" feelings, but wow.. to just, off yourself like that. Fascinating.

The whole "I'm better than everybody" act is getting old Guff.

You're Scottish ffs.

I told you. Mirror. Look in it. Whether I'm a good person or not bears no significance to what you'll see looking back at you there.

"My bad! I confused this with another case where the wife & kids were badly burned."

Holy crap 5Cats admitted he was wrong about something. Is this bizarro day? Seriously, a little respect has been gained back.

Of course YOU never make mistakes, we should all learn from your fine example.

Ah, the next refuge of the ignorant: looking outward, concluding that others must behave as badly as you (no verifiable evidence required for that belief once again of course), and deciding that means your own ignorance must therefore be perfectly acceptable.

I only mention your regular tendency to describe your (unfounded) beliefs as facts, 5Cats, because you literally do it in every other post. It's not an occasional trait. It's not something you've done once or twice. It's your whole persona on here. You *want* something to be true, so you state that it *is* true, and you never ever bother to check your facts. This might surprise you, but most other people, we don't go about life that way: reality is a concrete concept for most of us, and facts are based on more than mere opinions.

Thanks for your concern @MacGuffin, but I think you've confused IAB with Mensa or something. I wasn't aware that PHDs were required to post, OR that everyting on the interwebs needed to be fact-checked first!

Of course YOU never make mistakes, we should all learn from your fine example.

...the noise of reality...

Excuse me? Reality makes noise? You have a factual link for that? What sort of 'reality' are you refering to? Subjective? Objective? /sarc

Now go look at Puffins! Chill out ffs!

You're a joke, aj. And, as I said, if you want to see what's wrong with America you need only look in a mirror. It's not GW Bush's fault, it's not Barry's : it's people like you, who don't give a damn about anyone, and trot out your hatred for your fellow man at the drop of a hat, based on the flimsiest of pretexts.

It's a convicted felon MacGuffin.

drat him. Waste of space.

Of course. The "he's a convict" defence for your failings as a human being. Never mind the fact that your country imprisons more of its citizens for huge chunks of their lives for frankly trivial offences than any other nation on earth. And never mind that this particular "convict" was sent down by the kangaroo court and prison system that's recognised world-over as being the worst of the worst amongst that corrupt system.

"He's a convict" = "I'm justified in my two minutes hate". Even if I'm not personally a victim. Even if nobody was a victim.

How very unusual, 5cats. It's not like the opinions you express in every second post on here are based on "facts" that, whilst you hold them to be true with the fervour of a zealot, are demonstrably false when you apply even a tiny little bit of effort trying to verify them. I'm surprised that the noise of reality whizzing by six inches above your head hasn't driven you deaf by now.

@dirtysteve, @macgovern (and me too):

...a charge of committing arson of an occupied (by him) structure,

From @pomokey's link! It seems that he was alone, BUT it's still "occupied" by someone, so he got the book thrown at him!

@richanddead: My bad! I confused this with another case where the wife & kids were badly burned. He was fine (of course). It happened around 3 years ago too, and I recall reading about THIS case at the time. The scuba gear? Unforgettable!

The predominant lack of sympathy for someone that was clearly desperate in this thread is quite telling. If you ever wonder what's at the root of America's problems, where nobody seems to give a damn about anyone else, and everyone has the idea that other people don't care about society in general as much as they do, have a look in the mirror: the problem is you.

I'm not an American, so can't say for sure. But seems to me that that's exactly how American priorities go right now - financial worth first, moral worth second. Multimillion mansion is probably a lot more worth to the bank than a dead guy (unless he's rich). *By America I'm talking about the system, not the individuals*

"IN THE VID, the jury said that he was guilty of burning down an occupied structure. Whats the goddamm confusion?"

It's quite clear it was occupied, because they said he was in the house at the time that he set fire to the house. Occupied structure doesn't have to mean anyone besides the fire starter was in the house.

Where are all these rumors about his wife and kid coming from? The news said he was alone.

"Michael J. Marin committed arson of an occupied structure by starting multiple fires inside his home. Michael was the only person home at the time of this fire and escaped using a portable ladder from the second-story balcony while wearing a diving mask, buoyancy compensator, and breathing air from a scuba tank."

No wife or kid.

There seems to be some confusion on here, the article linked seems to say he was the only one home at the time, whereas others are saying his family was there.

Which is it?

Rape a person- 3 to 8 years; Kill a person- generally about 10 years. Burn down your house that's been unfairly(More than likely) repossessed- 16 years.
Priorities, we haz 'em.
