Sunday, June 24, 2012 12:38:42 AM @I-am-evil: I vaguely remember the scuffle...I'm pretty sure Leesah made completely uncalled for personal remarks towards a mod, something along the lines of "you're ugly and stupid and inferior and a b*tch" or whatever...you know, typical Leesah fare gone too far. She was entertaining, but she had utterly no respect or sense of honor. And if there's one thing that bothers me, it's someone without honor. |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 12:07:24 AM Well this is just silly, yes theyre the same colour but unless someone is retarded enough to not understand the concept of 'light source' our brains will say its different. Our brain isnt lying the diagram is. |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 7:13:27 PM Your eyes...they lie! No, they just leave out most of the truth. I've read some interesting details of research into human sight. The amount of information passed from our eyes to our brains is suprisingly small. Much of what we "see" is made up on the fly by our brains, to the extent that scans of brain activity seem to indicate that only a *minority* of the data going to the visual cortex to be processed into what we "see" comes from our eyes. In a sense, everything we see is an illusion. On a related tangent, we actually see nothing at all most of the time. It's not a constant feed because our eyes are moving most of the time and we see nothing while they're moving. It's a slideshow of static photos rather than a video. Our brain fills in the gaps and interprets movement into the collection of static images. Vision is weird. |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 7:01:36 PM but they arent the same color. one clearly has a darker black bottom edge, while the other clearly has a lighter white top edge. True, but the main section of each square is the same colour and they look quite different. I was curious enough to load the image into GIMP and examine the colour information - it is identical for the main section of each square. |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 4:04:27 PM It seems I've corrected this problem by rotating my finger 90 degrees, now every time I see it, same color. |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 3:43:56 PM Leesah banned? Wasn't she the self-absorbed rather dim young person who never really got the point? Why was she banned? |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 12:59:09 PM It's fake; see my explanation below. If you want proof, hold your finger a good 12" (30 cm) from the monitor and the colors are clearly different. |

Saturday, June 23, 2012 12:49:12 PM It's not your eyes that are lying, it is your brain. TechMistress, the edges have to be different color, that is the point. If it were two mono-tonal colors, it would be easy to tell that they are the same shade. Because the background gives the impression of depth and a source of light which creates a shadow, our brain interprets where shading should occur; thus the bottom block appears darker at first glance because this is how we typically interpret the world. Most people believe that they are aware of and and perceive all visual stimuli, but in reality most of what we "know" about what we see is amalgamated from many different snapshots from a rapidly moving eye. Often times the brain will "fill in" these images from previous experience. So that, the brain has always experienced that an object behind a source of light creates a shadow; ... the bottom square appears darker. |
