Tourists don't get to see the Royalty so saying they make that money is a poor excuse.

the Brits get £160 million from the profits generated by the land the Royals own.

You seem to think that land wasn't just taken to begin with.

A person who gives themself a signifigant raise during a recession speaks volumes of how in touch they are with "commoners" what do they need more money for? Did BP stock tank too much for them to continue their lifestyle? Wake up!

Well it seems they are the only brits actually making any money. A raise is a good incentive to continue to do so! The Queen is an awesome woman of integrity. How does the 'mercan equivalent stack up?

They generate more cash then they earn because the Brits get £160 million from the profits generated by the land the Royals own. Include the revenue generated by tourism and you'll realize the Royal family are a good deal for the UK

Have a look at "The True Cost of the Royal Family Explained" by C.G.P Grey on Youtube for a succinct rundown of the facts.

I still hate them all the same!

@Angillion - You can't reason with some people, they just ignore the evidence.

These are the same people, remember, that insult religious people for the exact same thing that they do themselves.

when she was young, idda face humped her.

You could probably find a better use for the time machine you'd have to invent first :)

Odd to think that she's a trained mechanic.

There is a link - she was young in WW2 and she served in the military as a mechanic in WW2.

That's just the very basic schooling in very simple maths for those people who know nothing about the subject and have been misled by silly propaganda.

Next up...a head of state. We'd need to have one anyway and there would be expenses involved in that. It wouldn't matter what title you gave them, the expenses would still be there.

After that...buildings maintainance. That would still cost the same amount of money regardless of the title of the head of state.

After that...staff costs. You'd still need to pay staff for the head of state and buildings maintainance, regardless of what title you gave the head of state.

So...the queen works as head of state, pays all the expenses out of her own pocket and gives a lot more money to the state on top of that.

How retarded do you have to be to think that we could save money by replacing her with an elected head of state who wouldn't give us a fortune?

Rhetorical question.

Even the title alone made it clear this is bull.

Here's an offer to anyone who thinks that the queen is getting a raise, or that she's leeching of the country, or *that she gets paid at all*.

I will give you the same deal that the UK gives to the queen.

You work for me. You entertain my guests, you promote my business interests, etc. I expect you to work a lot and I expect you to work for me until you die.

You give me £240M a year *of your own money from assets you inherited from your parents*.

In exchange for your work and your £240M, I'll give you £36M *of your own money back*, but only on condition that you spend it only on expenses you have incurred in your work for me, and I will expect a full accounting from you showing that.

So...anyone want that deal? Anyone want to be a "parasite" on me?

Scale it down if you like. Send me £240 and I'll send you £36 of it back and keep the rest

Here'san idea: get rid of the royal family, period. They serve no purpose in today's society. Make them get real jobs and do real work helping real people.

Blah, I'm not British, so what do I know? America's political system is far from perfect, but at least we have elections for all our politicians. She's sat on the throne for 60 years. What exactly is her purpose?

Considering the UK profits overall the rest is somewhat irrelevant.

Just as a sideline for our American friends, and our British ones that don't grasp simple economics, imagine the yearly running cost of the POTUS's Air Force One. As far as I'm aware the exact running costs have never been made public, but educated guesses are around $250 million a year. US taxpayers dollars. Now our Queenie gets about a bit too. But she pays for her own travel from her own pocket. Her allowance from the UK taxpayer if you will.

Difference? Well quite a lot it seems financially that the UK has a better deal here.

the then government did a deal with the royal family, the government took responsibility for all their land (including all revenue generated) and in return the royal family agreed a yearly allowance. the amount of money this land raises for the country yearly far exceeds what the royal family receives so to cal them 'parasites' is incredibly ignorant.

@JacobTrue13 - You're talking crap in your first point, you're admitting it in your second.

As I've said before, I'm not a royalist. The rest of the royal family aside the queen and her heirs can get to drat as far as I'm concerned, they're mostly parasites. But the Queen is such a big cash cow for this country it is unreal. It'd be like chopping down a money tree.

At first I was all: This is gonna be a McGovern link.

Then I was all: But he never posts anything!

I shoulda stuck to my guns. :<

On topic, I'd like to highlight something:
"Her property holdings, known as the Crown Estate, posted a record profit of 240.2 million pounds..."

Thus the UK makes a profit. Thank you very much your Maj.

For all the dumbass Brits commenting on here saying tourism justifies the monarchy...

A. It's a bullpoo myth. The monarchy brings in far less to the UK than most people think.

B. Even if it was true, saying that tourist income justifies the monarchy is essentially putting a price on our democracy. I'm not willing to do that. Clearly the royalists are.

As a UK born national, I think The Queen is worth every penny.
What does she do all day? asks skytz1337.
She attracts millions of tourists into the country, who spend millions of dollars more than the tax-paying public pay for her upkeep.
All day.
