Wednesday, June 27, 2012 6:37:52 AM how do we know it is really recognizing itself, or if it is just a timed recording of what to say in this particular dialogue? |

Monday, June 25, 2012 7:09:19 AM No, Javien is correct. It takes a picture and compares it to other pics. When you tell it to add a pic of itself, it does. In no way does this make it self-aware. It's just a program, looking at pictures and finding a name that goes with any particular picture. Sort of like "Google Image Search". |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 10:54:08 PM No, we need to keep hope that this guy will turn out to be some robot like Data from Star Trek: Next Generation. All you have to do is keep the emotions out and eliminate any need for ambition. |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 10:28:44 PM I would be more impressed if he could recognize himself in a different size or from a different angle. |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 6:28:02 PM It seems to me that the robot is just recognizing an image and calling it "me", "I", "myself", but not really understanding much beyond that. It would be impressive if the robot really showed an understanding of the concept of "me" in relation to the image he sees, understanding that it's AI is physically contained within that image, and realizing that it can alter the image by physically moving etc. |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 5:12:24 PM "What is this?" "Let me see. I don't know." "This is a picture of the entire world." "Oh. I will train myself TO TAKE OVER THE GODDAMN WORLD!" this is pretty much how things are going to end for us all. |

Sunday, June 24, 2012 3:28:30 PM @Quackor - Haha "simple object recognition, nothing more" - I think you will find that object recognition algorithms are quite complex. Also it isn't just object recognition on display, it is also robotics and voice recognition. |
