Runway shows are usually not the showcase of the actual line. They are more or less an over the top representation of the "feel" of the line.
Dumb, perhaps, but never intended to be worn in day to day life. |

Same reason they do concept cars that nobody will ever drive.
Same reason the make films that don't reflect the banality of everyday real life.
Same reason they do fancy dishes in restaurants with artsy trimmings that you'd never take the time to do if cooking at home.

The question assumes that it's supposed to be practical in any way, shape or form. I think that assumption is wrong.
I think that all the clothing in this series on IAB and all the rest like it is the result of betting between fashion designers, perhaps a semi-organised competition. The goal, obviously, is to see who can get the most ludicrous outfit onto a catwalk. I suspect that alcohol is involved. |
