@ Gui - my ipad runs beautifully, intuitively with nary a problem. I don't have to know the chain of computer code that makes it work.... it does. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 8:05:13 PM Apple can't run without Microsoft hosting Active Directory. Microsoft can't run without Linux hosting servers. Linux can't run without Dell and HP creating servers. Dell and HP can't run without Asus, Intel, IBM, blah blah blah. The closer you are to using Apple the more drating ignorant you are of technology. Know your electronic food chain. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 7:29:07 PM Hey Freddy Ferret. This isn't 1999 anymore. Microsoft's OS's are damn near flawless now. They don't crash, won't get hacked and I've yet to find a core OS bug. In fact, even IE 10 has been proven to provide more default protection than any other web browser on the market. Maybe you should upgrade from Windows 98? |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 7:25:02 PM Keyboards are not a selling point when you're paying 800 dollars for a glorified web browser. But since this is an actual PC, a keyboard is almost mandatory. I imagine most iPad users won't need the complexity of several buttons to push. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 11:33:45 AM I love my iPad and I went out last year to buy a keyboard for it... I've used it twice... Keyboard is not a selling point trust me. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 11:06:22 AM I'll reply with a solid "maybe". This looks like a slick product, and the removable keyboard/screen cover is ingenious. Then I remember back when they tried to topple the iPod with the Zune... But times have changed, Apple has lost their figurehead and they aren't quite in their prime anymore. If Microsoft has a chance, now is probably the time. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 10:10:27 AM @freddyferret You're pretty much completely wrong. The new iPad is more or less similarly priced to Android tablets with similar specs. Also, Windows 8 is far more stable than Android could ever hope to be. The apps aren't all coded in Java on Win8. Try again, this time with facts. A 32gb iPad is $600. I can get a 32GB Asus Android tablet for $400. There are better deals on 16gb tablets too. Windows is more stable than Android like Hawaii is colder than Alaska. Try it and see how many bugs it has, how secure it is, and how many times it crashes. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 9:23:29 AM We have a service-based economy, not a manufacturing economy. And there's your problem. Also the numbers Apple gives for how many Americans they employ include such jobs as the FedEx and UPS drivers that deliver their products, as well as other indirect operations that contribute small pieces to their products but are their own businesses, not employed by Apple. |

"but you have to be honest about how little they do for America's economy" How many stores do they have nationwide employing a salesforce? How many truck drivers distributing the product? Warehouse people, office/clerical/janitorial? We have a service-based economy, not a manufacturing economy. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 8:15:30 AM Personally I love my iPhone and iPad and I have no problems supporting a great american company. A great American company that employs by a large majority foreign labour, and executives have said it's not Apples job to fix America's problems (I happen to agree with that, but you have to be honest about how little they do for America's economy). |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 7:57:04 AM I don't know why there's so much hate for Apple. Personally I love my iPhone and iPad and I have no problems supporting a great american company. I have a bluetooth keyboard but don't use it that much just for casual browsing and playing games. This does look like a great offering from Windows. I also like Asus products. I've been a big fan of them since builidng my own PC's and their new ultrabooks are amazing. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 5:21:55 AM @Corpsecrank Sorry, no, they're called netbooks and they've been around for awhile. I'd like to say I'm a minority on this, that this "laptop" won't suit my needs as someone who buys laptops almost solely for gaming when I'm away for a few weeks at a time, but being in the signal corps of the army, a good majority of us have powerful gaming laptops. Some of us that do aren't even big gamers, we just need something to do. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there in the laptop gaming market, otherwise there wouldn't be so many large companies (Dell, HP, Sager, Asus, Toshiba, Acer - Just the ones right off the top of my head) putting so much effort in to releasing new gaming laptops ever year. I assure you the death of the laptop still has a ways to go. It certainly isn't going to be with this little toy. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 5:14:01 AM No, it won't, because buying apple products isn't about hardware superiority, it's about loyalty to apple products. If you don't buy alternatives now, you're not going to regardless of what windows or sony puts out. It's that simple. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 4:31:41 AM No mouse...how are you going to use your fingers on the screen when it's standing like that? it has a usb port. Connect a mouse if you must have one. There was also a track pad on the keyboard. |

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 4:21:43 AM Honestly, what MSFT ought to do is simply build a hip subsidiary. Its products are decent enough, but it suffers horribly from its market position as a stodgy old-timer. MSFT could continue building standard business and productivity products (including the OS) but Ballmer ought to consider creating a differently-branded subsidiary for hardware (especially) and advanced applications. |
