Sunday, June 17, 2012 3:45:36 AM Yep, your greed based form of capitalism works really well, don't it? And North America has some of the highest cable and internet and cell phone prices. What, we got signs on our backs sayin' "GOUGE ME!"? |

Saturday, June 16, 2012 4:10:41 PM but even still there's nothing stopping them from raising prices afterward. Except for yet another business cropping up. Altaru, no one is saying that the system we got is acceptable. But from fiscal conservative standpoint it is far better than most other countries as they have ridiculous schemes to hide the real cost of healthcare. These practices ultimately drive business away from those countries, making healthcare more and more scarce. Secondly, the solution being put forth by the left is in the very same nature of what has been proposed and enacted before to solve the very problem. Not only does it fail in doing so, but it has even been sponsored BY the corporations you hate so much. In short corporations sponsor regulations to protect and enhance their market share, creating an effective monopoly. |

Saturday, June 16, 2012 10:52:53 AM Not before the incumbent lowered their prices. Prices aren't the only way corporations can crush a business, but even still there's nothing stopping them from raising prices afterward. CAT scan wait time USA-within 2 weeks Canada-8 months to 1 year I'll just pay more up front and avoid paying it in taxes Ignorance. I can pay up front for CT or MRI scans, it's called two-tier health care, look it up because I'm sick of explaining it to those south of the border. |

Saturday, June 16, 2012 10:08:05 AM "Americas health care might be more expensive but it is the best in the world. put it this way you get what you pay for" This is the dumbest post I've seen on these forums. I don't have a problem with Americans at all, they're generally good people. But many of them really needs to check whats going on outside their borders. |

Saturday, June 16, 2012 12:26:56 AM Americas health care might be more expensive but it is the best in the world. put it this way you get what you pay for Which totally explains why America has more health problems and shorter average life-spans than most of the rest of the developed world... OH, I get it now! American healthcare HAS to be better, because American's don't actually take care of themselves. It has to cost more to keep up with the numerous new ways people find to fuck themselves up on a regular basis... It all makes sense now. Americans are idiots, THAT'S why healthcare costs so much here. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 10:40:43 PM It's way out of hand. Things like this are reasons we will fail as a nation. This and Obama. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 9:23:02 PM My nephew was in a motorcycle wreck and ended up needing to get a metal plate put into his head. In the U.S. it was going to cost almost 70k bucks, in Canada it was around 64k but in Mexico it was only about 12 but he had to be careful because it was a hot plate. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 8:17:16 PM Now compare the cost of a medical degree in American VS other countries and you'll see why this happens. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 6:00:35 PM Doctors don't get most of the money even though they deserve it. Insurance companies make a killing and doctors have to haggle with them. I guess if we get rid of the middle man everyone would save. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 1:44:46 PM and what do you think they will charge when they know the government will flip the bill? We'll ALL pay them, indirectly, but we will all pay them. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 1:07:14 PM @cajun: And in a market where a few companies hold the majority of market share, any start-up that could possibly challenge them and take any appreciable portion of said market share would either be swallowed up by one of the big guys, or squashed like a c ockroach. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 12:46:52 PM @patchgrabber There's nothing "magical" about it. Without regulations incumbent industries have no control over who enters the marketplace. They are going to enter because people naturally want lower prices. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 11:15:10 AM @FoolsPrussia Making it a right doesn't make it more accessible. Healthcare and education is completely unaffordable in the USA precisely BECAUSE the government is coddling those industries, throwing endless amounts of money at them unconditionally, not forcing them to find ways to make their industries more efficient. Look at what happens when you have sink-or-swim, survival-of-the-fittest, Darwinist principles taking hold in an industry. Look at the consumer electronics industry. Nothing but higher and higher quality and lower and lower prices. Look at the internet. If the government coddled and breastfed the computer and electronics industry the same way it currently does with education and healthcare, we'd still be using 1 megahertz computers that cost $20,000 each, and the internet would be used by the military only. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 10:21:34 AM @FoolsPrussia "We already provide socialized healthcare for [seniors and] veterans...." Only under certain circumstances do veterans qualify for health care after they leave the service and when spending cuts were proposed for the Department of Defense, THAT was one of the first items on the chopping block. Nevertheless, thumbs up to everything else you said. |

Friday, June 15, 2012 9:50:17 AM Europe has a "Value Added Tax" which in part helps pay citizens medical expenses. The GOP would never allow such a tax. |
