True. But Kensal Rise was something of a cause celebre, a long hard-fought campaign to keep it open was ended when they came in the dead of night to strip it of books and rip down the plaque commerating it's opening by Mark Twain.

The number of comparisons in Fahrenheit 451 to modern life are actually quite terrifying.
Wallscreens = LCD TV's
The Family = Facebook
Even the various references to how pharmaceuticals are used could be compared to the modern hike in anti-depressant use. The overtone that any knowledge that makes you feel anything but happy should be shunned and ignored seems to be dominant in today's society as well. Let's not forget, particularly for Americans, the "Little Wars". |

lol, one of my friends put a RIP up on facebook and called Ray Bradbury his favorite author.
He has never read any book of Bradbury's, lmao.
I consider his statement on FB to be the reverse equivalent of SarahofBorg.
It may seem overrated to you, but your opinion doesn't quite mean squat lmao, until you read it.

Back in school, when we had the "required" books that we had to read, this was the ONLY one I fully read and enjoyed. The rest, I just got bored with and rented the movie versions, then made up the reports as I went along. |

my teacher, Leonard Franco introduced me to RB at a lecture back in the 80s. After he autographed my copy of the Vanilla Ice Cream Suit I took a look at it & laughed. I explained to them that my favorite author had spelled my name wrong! He offered to correct it but I told him I liked it better as it was. He rolled his eyes at me. I just love that dude. I miss those Pasadena days! |

The libraries in my town cut their hours, and all close by 5 pm. It's sad when I go there and half of the visitors are just homeless people looking at porn. |
