and?.... how is this of any importance? happens all the time. i used to work in aerospace defense and it really isn't as big of a threat as people seem to think it is. |

I test aerospace parts for a living - yeah, it's very common and industry standards that we test every single piece for reliability and lack of degradation from such events. What's more common (almost constant) is the amount of static charge the plane itself builds up moving through the air. |

Seen it in person, took almost 5 mins for the pilot to come on and say everything was fine. Long 5 mins |

Quite common and usually causes no problems at all, pretty cool, but would still would poo a little bit though. |

I've seen that too and I don't think the pilot considered it lightning but a static discharge caused by moving through moist air. I know it seems like it would be the same thing to us, but I suppose saying its just an atmospheric anomaly causes less panic than saying "Oh my God, we've been struck by lightning!" |
