Thursday, May 24, 2012 9:31:34 PM its still a stupid chart. everyone should know this by now. It's drilled in by media all the time. Plus it makes comparrison with only one part of the full data. Lifestyle and whats actually in the burger aswell as even standard life earnings all account to obesiety so I really hate charts like this. We know fastfood is bad for you and in unhealthy portions. we get. We just don't care. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 9:13:19 PM The reason you're all fat is because you blame the food instead of yourselves for eating it. Gone are the days of personal responsibility, there's always someone else to point the finger at. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 9:11:56 PM one thing that never changes, people make stupid, inaccurate and missleading charts. yay for sudo-science. That is true, but this one is spot-on accurate. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 9:10:56 PM A plain burger at McDonalds is 3.5 oz. Wrong. Regular burgers at McD's are 10 to a pound or 1.6 oz. PRE-COOKED weight. After cooking, they're barely over an ounce. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 9:04:16 PM "This is stupid. 7 oz. isn't even as much as a can or bottle of cola, which has always been 12 oz. and the standard size back then too." Wrong. Up until the mid 60s, a "regular" Coke was 6.5 oz.
A "king size" Coke was 10 oz., and a Pepsi was 12 oz. Later Coke introduced the 16 oz. "half-quart" which was advertised as "three glasses over ice." A "regular" Coke at McDonald's or a drive-in was 10 oz., but that included at least 4 oz. of ice. Now a "regular" Coke from a vending machine is 20 oz, or just a bit more than 3 regular Cokes 50 years ago, and "Big Gulp" fountain drinks today are just totally ridiculous. Also, McDonald's didn't even have Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, or large fries, and you could eat there for less than $1. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 8:22:21 PM This is stupid. 7 oz. isn't even as much as a can or bottle of cola, which has always been 12 oz. and the standard size back then too. Besides, who wants 7 oz. anyway? I'd be thirsty before my meal was over and need a refill! And who needs 42 oz. when they HAVE free refills at the store? Even on the go, I don't need more than the 'small' size which for everyone but McDonald's has become what the 'medium' used to be. Just because 42 oz. may be the ultimate top-end of what a burger joint might sell, doesn't mean it deserves to be on a chart. Also, isn't the Quarter Pounder still McDonald's most popular-selling burger? Doesn't that make it - drrr - even LESS than the 1950's supposed size. This is stupid. 2.4 oz. of fries aren't enough either - you get more than that at In-N-Out. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 7:35:07 PM one thing that hasn't increased over that time is how much food we should eat. just because the portions are bigger doesn't mean you should be eating more, you are responsible for your own health. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 6:46:02 PM and @ Jamie76, I think the main reason people are bigger now is because back then fast food was a "treat". Today the dinner convo is usually "Well, what do you want, McD's, BK, Hardee's, Chik-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, or Wendy's?" Plus, we are not nearly as active. Kid's don't play outside like they used to. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 6:44:13 PM Back in the day a serving of coke in a bottle was 8oz. Pepsi in the early 70's IIRC came up with the 12oz bottle in an attempt to gain more market share. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 6:40:49 PM ok, typically don't fast food joints advertise a 1/2 pound burger as "ZOMG!!!!!IT'S SO BIG!!!ONLY A REAL MAN CAN EAT PORTIONS THIS BIG!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!one!!!!" Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't half a pound 8 ounces? Not that a half pound burger isn't disgustingly large. |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 6:36:41 PM A Small soda at Mcdonalds in the US = A Large one in Europe btw. I also remember the 1st time I visited a supermarket in the US, I was amazed by the portions and some of the crap food I saw there, the bag of chips, soda bottles etc were like twice or even thrice as big. Same thing goes for the people really :s |

LINK So according to this, burgers have shrunk 4 oz. why do you all keep assuming that Mc Ds is the only fast food place out there? BK has much much larger burgers and so does carl's. not to mention wnedy's average burger is pretty large. also, you cannot just count the siz of the patty, the whole burger itself has gotten larger and the bread has a ton of empty calories in it.... unless of course you think everyone turned into a fat ass for no reason? |

Thursday, May 24, 2012 4:58:24 PM ok really? were comparing a kids meal to a super sized meal. lets atleast be fair about it, there is no way even in 1950's thast any self respecting adult would get a 7 oz soda. thats like 2 sips and its gone. |
