They are probably doing a PSA on how to recycle aluminium for poor latin people.
They forgot to preheat the drop mould to dry it and hit a wet patch, creating a mini-steam explosion that flung molten metal.
That's why you don't do it indoors, and why you wear a full face shield and have no open pockets. |

I learned about this when I was melting lead on a cold concrete floor many years ago :P Luckily my hands moved faster than the exploding metal to shield my face. I only have a small scar on one of my hands and a ruined pair of khakis from the ordeal. |

I use to work with liquid aluminum. Our crucible only heated the metal to around 1250 degrees Fahrenheit. Just enough to make it a liquid. These guys were way beyond that temperature. And you never pour into a cold mold, for these reasons. |

Having worked a summer at a machine that covered copper in liquid tin, I know exactly what happened.
They didn't heat up the mold. Never ever put cold metal into molten hot metal or molten hot metal into a cold metal mold otherwise it will splatter. Also never pour molten metal onto a bare concrete floor, put down a layer of sand or dirt first. |
