Sunday, May 27, 2012 3:16:40 PM It's actually pretty BS. For me, buying clothes in the shopping center is the long winded way (for EXTREMELY RARE TIME I EVER BUY CLOTHES) but when it comes to buying games and comics, then yes I'm looking around everywhere. Also, who would design a shopping center like this with every store being clothes? As for the Skyrim thing, everyone does that. |

Sunday, May 27, 2012 1:07:07 AM @Angillion Just because a trend is not hard-wired, it doesn't mean it's false. Behaviour can be learned, thats what cultural differences are. If what you're suggesting is that an equivalent roman male would theoretically play skyrim differently to what a male would today, it is irrelevant to the generalised differences between males and females at present. |

Saturday, May 26, 2012 10:24:24 PM I don't know anyone that isn't rich that buys 876 dollars worth of pants in one shopping trip; I don't care how long they're in the store. |

Saturday, May 26, 2012 4:57:00 PM Oh, about the dresses. Sure, it's not true today in "the West". But it was true in the Roman empire. Short dresses were masculine. Long dresses were feminine. I'll belabour the point here, just to make sure everyone gets it: It's an example of something else I mentioned - gender is transient. Masculinity and femininity are not hard-wired absolutes. They're made up. They change from time to time and from place to place. Because they're made up, not hard-wired absolutes. |

Saturday, May 26, 2012 4:52:35 PM This pretty much proves that too many people believe silly stereotypes are absolute truth and are incapable of understanding the difference between a trend and an absolute or between sex and gender. It's all drivel, basically. Gender is almost as transient as fashion and just as meaningless (though a lot more harmful). It would be equally "true" to say that the fact that men wear short dresses and women wear long dresses proves that all men are the same and all women are the same and the two are innately different in <insert whatever "difference" the speaker wants to pretend is absolute and unbreakable>. This bullpoo really annoys me. I expect people have noticed. It's the usual hypocrisy that gets me. They claim all men are the same. They claim all women are the same. Then they prattle about differences and say that people who disagree with them are trying to force everyone to be the same. Filth. |
