Man, I can't even look at pelicans anymore. You all realize they eat other smaller birds too, right? Like they'll seriously just swallow them whole.
I'm serious, if you don't believe me go look that poo up. I remember when I first saw a video of one just up and eating a pigeon in a park I was like "holy poo, that is really sort of unsettling, but maybe it's just a fluke...", but then I was watching animal planet the one time and there was a program that followed a bunch of pelicans as they flew to the nesting ground of a bunch of smaller birds and started just wandering around eating their young. You could see them swallow them whole and watch them struggle all the way down the pelican's throat.
Then they flew back to their nests and regurgitated 'partially digested chick' for their young to eat. It bothers me to even think about it, and I'm usually pretty unaffected by that kind of stuff... |
