I hate the police...actually, I hate our absurd, nonsensical justice system that basically gives police free reign to do or act however the hell they want and bully anyone they feel like just so long as it's no one too important and nobody catches them on camera.
I say this a lot, but who's the idiot who came up with the idea of just handing power over other citizens and the ability to arbitrarily enforce the law to random people and didn't ever think 'gee, maybe this will attract bullies and self-serving non-nice individuals who will abuse the system and easily bend to corruption?'
The sad part is that there are kind officers out there who want to help people and who operate in a completely ethical manner. Unfortunately that doesn't change all the officers out there who care only about themselves, love being handed false power and will do anything if they think they'll get away with it. |

More fun facts:
-> 6-10 people were shot by german police officers per year (average, last 10 years)
-> homicides w/guns in germany: somewhere between 150-200/year
-> US population: 3.8 times bigger than german population
So the stats in the US should be:
-> ~38 people shot by police/year and
-> ~750 homicides involving firearms/year, right?
And no, I'm not trying to bash on the US, I just wonder... |

I will be one of the first to tell you that the American Justice system is severely flawed. Our prison system is a revolving door where criminals come out worse than when they went in. We also have socioeconomic factors in place that actively create criminals. Shooting someone 84 times does not help the situation. |

OK, just to give you an idea: when I (as a German) came to the US for the first time I went to Walmart (no, this is not about Walmart) where I saw all these guns on display. I thought it was sick and ridiculous. Honestly, child porn in the newspaper section would have upset me pretty much the same. But you guys (in the US) are so used to "guns" that it is probably difficult to realize that it could be different. I guess as long there is no change in the way you think(!) about guns, controls and everything you will have to live with your ridicolous high death rate. By the way: I feel way more safe here than in the US. |

No wonder criminals shoots at police more, they are desperate since they know that their life is anyway over going in to prison slave camps for life with no chance of rehabilitation..

Everything is more expensive here in Germany, but German cops are as well equipped as the Americans. They simply don't tend to come up against criminals armed with guns. The penalties here for having a gun illegally (or worse, firing it at someone) are severe. Which is fine, cos in exchange they let us drive at insane speed on the autobahn. I stick to 125mph myself, but that's not that fast by German standards. |
