At first I felt Will Smith was in the wrong because of a cultural misunderstanding but after seeing it again it was pretty clear the reporter was way too invasive and going for his mouth. And it was a gentle little slap, so he handled himself well. |

Also, dude has his arm tightly around the back of Will's neck. He is trying to hold him close and firmly which reeks of suspicious activity. |

Ah... It looks kinda like the dude was trying to do the Euro double-cheek kiss but on closer inspection the second cheek hit was because Will turned his head to the left to avoid a mouth kiss. The slap was unnecessary but not undeserved. If instead of Will Smith it was just some dude who almost got kissed on the mouth by some stranger it'd be considered very light retribution. |

This was on the news here and apparently this Ukrainian reporter is known for trying stunts on camera to provoke a reaction. And in most countries where the kiss on each cheek they pull back between cheeks not smear their face over to the other side. |

Wow, I can't believe all the idiotic pandering going on supporting Will's act of blatant ignorance. Have you ever gone in to hug someone and had that awkward moment of which way to turn your head? Well try doing that while kissing both cheeks. I've had to do it in other countries, and sometimes you almost bump lips trying to go the same direction first. It's an innocent mistake, and Will Smith should be ashamed of himself that he reacted like the lesser human. Poor form. |

Go to a lot of countries and that's a very normal way of greeting someone, respectfully too. He didn't try to "kiss him on the mouth", and sure as hell didn't deserve the slap!

Mister_C: yes that is a custom. however Smith was trying to move his face away and the reporter CLEARLY didnt get the message. Smith thought he was trying to kiss him on the mouth because of this.
Justified imo. |

But I think he was justified, it was hardly a slap anyway. I can't tell if he was trying to kiss him on the cheek or on the mouth, but either way that'd make me uncomfortable and a little something is totally legit in my opinion. |

Yes, he was justified. I wouldn't let a strange man or woman do that to me! A man should be able to defend himself from unwanted advances, too.
And it's not like Will Smith was going overboard, it seemed like he'd have let the reporter get away with the European kisses on the cheeks if the reporter hadn't tried for the mouth. |
