Saturday, May 19, 2012 10:08:42 AM @RytWing - If you think the planet is currently supporting the population you might want to get outside a little more. When we reach critical mass it isn't like a switch will be flipped and we all die off. It will be a slow process as millions starve, species disappear, the climate changes, etc. Oh wait, that's going on right now. |

Thursday, May 17, 2012 10:04:29 PM He is dead on. There are too many people (to, too, two)7 billion starving people. Hungry people will kill for food. War, world war, world wide famine. But who has all the babies? Primitive superstitious religions that's who. We must grow up and cast off the primitive shackles or all mankind is doomed . . . |

Thursday, May 17, 2012 9:58:37 PM Hey, Bill, do you REALLY want to reduce the population? Why don't you start by killing your three kids? Then you can kill yourself. Before you do, though, could you please, for f***'s sake, fix the bugs in Office 97? |

Thursday, May 17, 2012 4:08:46 PM Incorrect assumptions: 1) Global CO2 is rising 2) Rising CO2 leads to rising temperatures 3) Rising temperatures are bad None of the above has been proven. |

Thursday, May 17, 2012 12:41:47 PM The population is suppose to peak in the next few decades, (close to 2050 and close to 9 or 10 billion people, i think). The growth comes from underdeveloped countries and the slow down comes from just the opposite. When you give women education and a means to have a carrer and make their own decisions, birth rates decrease. |

Thursday, May 17, 2012 9:27:50 AM @cynicalgamer. How much food does this country throw out every day? The problem isn't that there isn't enough it's getting into the right places at the right time. There is plenty to go around there isn't enough money in the right places to get it there. @honkeylips. Who gets to be on the eugenics committy? I'll tell you, rich old white people. Still a good idea? bye bye brown people. No man should tell another man he can't reproduce. This from the people that believe in natural selection. Let nature take its course and quit trying to kill each other. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 6:21:48 PM The "experts" say the earth can only support half of it's current population. So what is doing right now? Oh! That's right. It's not supporting it's current population with exponential growth. No. Wait. If it can't support us then how can we be growing so fast? Stupid experts. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 3:46:48 PM I think we should reduce the population by giving vasectomies and hysterectomies to anyone not deemed worthy of breeding. Eugenics is a great idea. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 12:57:36 PM Not a new idea at all. If you have high infant mortality people have loads of kids, reduce that so people have less children and those people will be wealthier. Continue that trend and people will die off faster than they are born- even with good healthcare. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 8:52:42 AM Because in poorer countries like India, the higher the infant mortality rate, the more kids they have to insure that someone will be there to care for them when they get old. The lower the mortyality rate, the fewer kids they have, therefor reducing population growth. In theory this sounds correct, but you're assuming that these countries will just stop what they've been doing for decades. They won't just stop having as many kids, it's a part of their culture now. They would just have MORE kids because less would die. |

"The lower the mortyality rate, the fewer kids they have, therefor reducing population growth." It didn't work out that way here in USA. As people got better health care and better food, we had the BABY BOOM. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 7:58:14 AM It is simple and not a new idea at all. Developed countries that have health care and education available are seeing a decrease in reproduction. Uneducated, unhealthy, third world countries have very very high reproductive rates. |

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 7:47:55 AM "The lower the mortyality rate, the fewer kids they have, therefor reducing population growth." Short term. As health and money become stable, people start to focus on building a family. Instead of having five babies and hoping one lives they're having three babies that they know will survive. So that occasional +1 turns into a guaranteed +3. |
