Though to be honest, the only people who can commit a hate crime are straight white males, anyone else is a minority and protected.

More nonsense from another white guy. The reason you can't wrap your mind around hate crime laws is because you don't go out hunting black people or gays. But sadly there are people who do. These people do need to be removed from the general population because their embedded hatred drives them to crime that makes everybody in their hated group a possible target. |

Though to be honest, the only people who can commit a hate crime are straight white males, anyone else is a minority and protected. I only say that because you never hear about hate crimes against straight white males, I'm sure they happen, they are just not good entertainment for news shows. |

What I find beyond scary is that if one were to defend themselves against another person of a different race, it could be construed as a hate crime and be charged with it. What's even scarier is that if it's a FEDERAL HATE CRIME, then one could be given a death penalty. |

@madest: Unlike you, I know how to read an article on the topic. Several have been written that confirm, from the source (SPD) that this is the case.
The accusation by the Martin's lawyers got LOTS of press attention, but when the facts were looked into it was entirely based on ONE comment taken out of context.
Now shut your hypocritical mouth Mr. Pants Tucked In! YOU of all people saying "you weren't there" YOU!
Zimmerman's arrest in the first place was political. This threat of "race hate" is even more so. |

Do you not know what is meant by saying that Zimmerman's testimony was consistent? Are you really that dumb?
No witness testimony is ever exactly consistent with reality. No witness ever remembers anything correctly, many experiments have shown how bad people are as witnesses and the distortions of memory get greater with stress (Zimmerman had plenty of that). However if the witness is not consistent with what he or she has said before that is an indication of lying. |

The Seminole County sheriff, while in court trying to defend his decision to release Zimmerman after the initial arrest, admitted that his story was inconsistent with the evidence. Where did you read otherwise?
