Sunday, May 13, 2012 11:36:53 PM People who own guns legally should be proud that they're held to a higher standard than someone who buys off the street. Maybe the standards in place right now aren't perfect, but I've always thought it odd that so many gun owners don't seem to want SOME policies in place that prove their legitimacy. I don't want to take good people's guns away, I just want to know that you did your homework. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:56:39 PM If guns weren't allowed then at best he would have a knife. Not how it works @Canoas: The criminals all over the world continue to have guns regardless of how many laws are enacted. The further the gov't cracks down? The higher the price of black-market guns gets, the more incentive there is to smuggle or steal them. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 5:06:59 PM @PhantomGhost But the other guy would have a gun too. So he would shoot you first and then your family would have no one to protect them. Also, they could get killed by a stray bulled even if no one wanted to kill them. If guns weren't allowed then at best he would have a knife. He can't accidentally kill your children with a knife. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 1:00:01 PM It is not a matter of needing guns to keep safe... it is a matter of if I may need the gun to keep safe. Rather be safe than sorry. Anybody breaks into my home I would take it as them threatening my family; they will have their head(s) blown off. I will not put my families lives at danger by trying to be honorable and bowing to the person and fist fighting, sword fighting or whatever the hell you feel is a legitimate honorable fight to defend your family from a criminal. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 12:35:25 PM The only thing that happens when you have strict gun laws is that it makes it harder or lengthens the waiting period for someone to LEGALLY obtain a gun. I live in NY and have a concealed carry permit, it's a lot of paperwork, background checks, you have to have references, etc and it took a few months for it to be processed. Then, license in hand, I was able to purchase a handgun. You can't even touch one in a gun store if you don't have a license, you ask the clerk if you can take a look at one and the first thing they ask is "Can I see your permit?" Same goes for buying pistol ammo, gotta have the permit. However, if I wanted to get my hands on one right away it's illegal to buy off the street but it's actually pretty damn easy! |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 12:16:09 PM @Buiadh: How many cities in your country have ghettos? How many race-based gangs are there? A LOT of gun violence and crime in Canada and the USA is gang-related. MOST gangs are race-based. Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Natives, you got plent of those in Scotland, right? Now WHY those races gravitate towrds violent gangs is a completely different story! We're dealing with one aspect of that, a side effect... |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 11:50:25 AM @trickroom Chill out, geez. Some of us don't spend all of our times looking at various websites with various pictures that may or not be the same. I'm noticing a disturbing amount of people who complain but are still here, hrmmm. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 11:01:38 AM you're making crappy points today Point out the flaws and lets talk. Gun crime here is much lower than in the US, yet our societies are quite similar in many respects. (Sadly(!)) Correlation does not imply causation. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 10:45:34 AM @Cajun247 - I thought you were an intelligent guy - you're making crappy points today! Actually take a look at the stats if you don't believe me. Gun crime here is much lower than in the US, yet our societies are quite similar in many respects. (Sadly(!)) |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 10:33:09 AM @trickroom: Does Reddit generate ALL ORIGIONAL material? Or do THEY get their stuff from somewhere else too? Think about it... @Buiadh: I just said that MASSIVE spending on gun laws do ZERO to affect 'gun crime' and you call it "spin"? I call it fact. In Canada: gun use in crimes and murders remained largely unchanged before, during or after "gun registration" was in effect. Spend those BILLIONS on, say, more cops? More prisons? And ALL CRIME would have been lowered! Not spin: fact. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 9:26:30 AM Your country has far more crime (and prisoners) than ANY other country in the world. The whopping majority of those are drug crimes, not violent ones. So your point is moot. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 9:24:55 AM It is much much more difficult to get guns here and your average criminal, unless he's some big shot, doesn't have access to firearms. Well the Pacific Ocean separates USA and Afghanistan, yet somehow opium manages to go from latter to former. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 9:23:16 AM No it isn't don't be a retard. - OK prove me wrong then. Your saying I need a gun to burn your home or steal your car or burglarize a store? - Stay on topic I mean there are a lot of crimes that do not involve weapons. - Like what you just mentioned? Give me some statistics "Lots and lots" - oh But look at any society where everyone owns a gun. - Is looking There is far less crime because you don't want to take the risk of anyone who sees you shooting you before the police arrive and shoot you. - What!? Your country has far more crime (and prisoners) than ANY other country in the world. The hell are you on about!? Get the picture? - Yes, you're the retard. Some yank gun-tooting "retard". It's a weapon for killing. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 8:14:12 AM @Draculya & @Buiadh: So we all agree, it is more CULTURAL than 'guns' right? Because Switzerland has assault rifles in nearly every household, and a LOW gun death ratio, right? You saw that on your (un-linked) stats too, @Drac? Canadian criminals were smuggling & stealing rifles long before the Registration, and continued unabaited by the "law"... Your Island may help slow it, but the crooks can still get guns, correct? |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:47:57 AM I looked at some stats. Ignoring the countries that America has recently invaded, the biggest shthole in the world is South Africa with 74.5 gun homicides per 100,000 population per year, (no surprises; you're probably more likely to get shot to death than get run over unless guns are also involved), then comes everywhere that supplies drugs to the US and then the US itself (4.14 homicides, 10.27 total deaths). North Asia is the safest place for gun crime. They look like a rounding error on US gun crime: Japan 0.02, South Korea 0.04, Hong Kong 0.12 (no stats for China, N Korea and Mongolia) because they are on the other side of the world from America and also don't sell oil to them. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:22:59 AM It's easy as pie to get guns form the US to Canada, @5Cats. In the UK we're an island. Your gun crime is not comparable to ours. It is much much more difficult to get guns here and your average criminal, unless he's some big shot, doesn't have access to firearms. Even those crimes that are commited at gunpoint are uneventfull, a shop owner gets told to fill the bags, they do it. Shop owner lives and, providing they have CCTV which most do, the criminal gets caught. The problem is in America, criminals are on edge because they know so many people have firearms so will be more trigger happy because of it, everyones a potential danger to them. The US has got itself into this mess, and they cannot go back on it now. As a neutral, I pity you guys that need guns to "keep safe". |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:17:03 AM "poverty causes crime" is a liberal fairytale... Your negation is too strong. If people have to steal to feed themselves they most likely will. Poverty is a factor. |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:16:30 AM @Selous: Poverty makes crime? Oh give me a break! Are you saying rich people NEVER commit crimes? Bernie Madoff? Greed causes crime, period. Followed by drugs & alcohol. "poverty causes crime" is a liberal fairytale... @Buiadh: Here in Canada, pistols have been restricted & registered since 1936. Long Rifles were registered by the Liberals a decade or so ago, that law was overturned last year! Hooray! So for all the BILLIONS of dollars spent by Federal, Provinical and local police & governments, how many crimes were prevented? ZERO. BILLIONS spent and not one good thing to show for it. The criminals STILL have all the guns they want, but the citizens are defenseless. All the laws you can imagine do nothing to stop a determined criminal, get it? |

Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:02:34 AM @PhantomGh0st - Yeah that's why gun crime is so horrifically high here in the liberal UK. LOL! |
