Even in the wild, they eat grashoppers if they're really hungry.
Cats almost always kill their prey. When they bring a live mouse home, it's to train the kittens how to hunt. Sometimes they mistake humans for kittens...

@5Cats - But that's nature. A cat isn't the mantises natural predator.
Also many animals eat their pray while it's still alive. Cats often do. |

I used to have a pet mantis, and I wouldn't have let a cat do that to one. It's good to keep them around, they eat the other, more horrible bugs, not to mention they do it in kung-fu-movie style. |

Although I have a cat and in general like cats, the truth is that they are a sadistic animal. But, Mantises aren't exactly the most hospitable creature, either. When I get my secret island lair, I'll have mantises the size of dogs roaming around to mutilate James Bond. And cats with wings just to piss off actual dogs! |
