Thursday, May 10, 2012 3:21:21 PM Pink, luckily, even Obama did not say that gay "marriage" was a civil right. So yeah, states can feel free to "ban" gay "marriage". Of course, the accurate way of putting it is that states can affirm the definition of a word that has had the same meaning for thousands of years up until the lunatics started tearing down every tradition and institution that has made this country great. |

5Cats & AJ - correct. Gay marriage was already banned. This amendment reinforced that ban, but also put a stop to any "seperate but equal" domestic partnerships as well. So gay people basically cannot have any kind of relationship. Jesus! Save me from your followers! |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 5:12:34 PM For all the haters: @AJ has pointed out that the bill was a "Trojan Horse" it carried with it many BAD new rules, hidden behind the "Gay Marriage" part. OK? People opposed a BILL, not the concept of one part of that bill. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 2:54:01 PM NC is exercising its right as a state to pass its own marriage laws, if you don't agree with it I would advise not moving to NC instead of getting offended. This logic is so faulty it's sad. You wouldn't say that if NC voted women couldn't vote or that black men couldn't use the same fountains and it passed by majority. Majority voting means jacksh*t when it involves impeding someone elses civil rights. |

auburnjunky, "Wait a sec. Is marriage a right?" It falls under the "right to pursue happiness" bit. Means whatever it is, you have a right to do it unless you are a: harming someone or b: violating someone else's right doing it or 3: specific law against it. {like pot where there is no victim and yet you still can't do it} So, yes you do have the right to marry anyone you want. Unless that ass hole over there's religion says that I can't. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 11:22:14 AM Not anti-gay, but pro-marriage. That makes so much sense. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:56:57 AM For me, a straight married man, I don't have any stock in this fight. What pisses me off is not that gay folks aren't allowed to be married (well Ok, that does piss me off), it's that I have to share part of the planet with asshats that think it's Ok to take away another person's rights. Why does anyone think that they should have a right to something and then, in the same breath, say that someone else can't have that same right? |

Claiming that someone else's marriage is against your religion is like being angry at someone for eating a donut because you're on a diet. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 9:47:35 AM The issue I see, is two sides arguing using a word with different meanings. To religious types, it means a union between a man and women under God. To everyone else it means a union. It's all about context, it can't be resolved in that state. |

I'm gonna say it again, for all those Bible Thumpers who never actually read the book... "What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?" 1 Cor. 5:12 That means your church rules only apply to YOU and your church membership and stop the holier-than-thou cramming your standards on other people bullsh*t. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 9:32:31 AM How many times must you post that AJ? Lukily, due to the botters on this site I always check my links before clicking them, thus I have avoided being referred to as a homosexual. |

The government shouldn't have anything to do with marriage. It's a personal, religious social matter that the government should have no say in. BTW, this is Ron Paul's position on this too. We don't even need government civil partnerships, private contracts would do just fine. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 8:47:37 AM The bill was proposed, and sponsored by NC democrats, most notably the governor, and the house majority leader. |
