Thursday, May 10, 2012 2:07:06 AM Hey @photomaster I remember that as well! I give them lots of slack because it was an awful moment for them. I also give TONS of credit for the USA's Men's Team showing tons of class after losing to Canada in the same Olympics (iirc!) By "tons" I mean mountains, HUGE ammounts! The USA is a great nation, I'd say second best in the world today! |

Thursday, May 10, 2012 1:47:44 AM I remember how the 'mercan ladies olympic team shamed themselves by pissin' and moanin' that they only got silver. Maybe a few fights would have livened things up a bit. I thought it was pretty fine technical hockey myself . . . |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 11:52:28 PM More history: Here! (wiki) And for the record: Theo Fleury is a man amoung men, he's a TITAN! God bless his heart and soul! If I should be so fortunate as to meet him? I will shake his hand and tell him so. Part 3 here! it's really good too! OK: I made a mistake: The USA did NOT end up with a medal after this. I totally remember it, but it's totally wrong. Finalnd = gold Czechslovakia = silver Sweden= bronze. I sincerely apologise to my American cousins! |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 11:27:58 PM Even Better Video! It's part one, part 2 is in the links. They turned the lights out for quite a long time, edited out of that other clip. DANG! This clip has a short "lights out" too! During the "lights out" the Russians were terrified, the Canadians? We kicked ass! Seriously, do NOT mess with Canada! We're so nice, why would you? Another Video! |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:59:35 PM @gothmo: You're probably too young to remember it but: Punch-Up In Piestany Background: If Canada won this game by 5 goals they'd claim the Gold Medal at the tournament. Russia was out of the medals already. Soon after Canada scored 3 goals in a row, this fight broke out. It has been proven absolutely that 3 (or more) Russian players left the bench BEFORE any Canadian did. The tournament rules said: if the game is stopped, it goes into the books as a 0-0 tie. However, the other teams got together and decided that both Russia (who weren't getting a medal anyhow) AND Canada (who even with a 0-0 tie would still get a medal) BOTH were out of the tournament. Finland got to keep their Gold. The USA moved from 4th to 3rd and were awarded the Bronze. I was watching it live! Canada > Fock The World! |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:35:35 PM @the_windy: I think they should both take their helmets off! But if that were a "rule" the lawsuits would be horrific... I'd totally support a fighting ban IF AND ONLY IF the referees actually called penalties properly! In the NHL the reffing is gawd-awful! Hooking, holding, slashing, interference? Never heard of it! Or worse: it's the third period, it's no longer a penalty! Or double worse: hey that's a "star player" tweeet! The main difference between NHL and other leagues, and Olympic and World Juniors (which I LOVE to watch!!!) is the enforcement of the rules. I love a good hockey fight! I HATE HATE HATE all the stickwork that's allowed! |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 9:21:02 PM I love the fighting >> never used to but... One game the entirety of both teams were on the ice, with the refs trapped in the middle. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 6:46:59 PM @FoolsPrussia "I think it's strange when people say that fighting is an integral part of the game. Fighting is relatively exclusive to North American hockey. It's not allowed in the European pro leagues, and it's not allowed in the Olympics either." That's a terrific point, those styles both suck!! North American Hockey is the only "real" hockey. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 6:20:10 PM My dad thinks that the fight should be stopped once the gloves come off. I personally think that it's the helmet that needs to stay on. Or maybe even both. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 5:56:49 PM That actually says it's a players poll, not a fan poll. Reading is hard. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 12:48:11 PM @8bitHero Of course fighting is a part of hockey They don't break up the fight until someone hits the ice Exactly how it should be |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:57:24 AM If they ban fighting the sport is going to get dull and players will start faking it. We don't want what happened to soccer to happen to hockey. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:36:25 AM "pretty sure even if they did ask the fans the poll would have the same results if not higher than 99.5% on 'No' " If you read past the headline, 90% voted "No" on a facebook poll. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 8:49:39 AM 1) "The fan have spoken!" - FALSE - It clearly says NHL PLAYERS POLL 2) Personally, I prefer a little violence mixed in with my sports. That's why I can't stand basketball and soccer, all you have to do is give another player a dirty look and they're calling a foul. |
