Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:27:40 AM It's not racist because it doesn't understand the meaning of the sentence nor the history of black people. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 4:08:21 AM @deyv87 Then it would have been underlined in red, not green. |

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 12:33:27 AM The person probably just set up his spell check to suggest "are not many" when "arenmany" is typed, then changed the n's color to white. Edit: the kerning isn't right for an 'n' to be in there, so maybe it's an 'l' or an 'i'. |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 8:17:12 PM OldOllie, I do agree; there are way too many clustered adjectives, but I was just using what I was given. |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 7:32:26 PM DuckBoy87, as a professional editor, I wouldn't change your version of the sentence, but it's just a bit wordy for my taste. |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 6:18:31 PM @5Cats "it looks like an essay on how wrong it is to use crime statistics to demonize all black people." It could just as easily be an essay about George Zimmerman, but we are talking about the sentence not the essay which we do not have to examine. It is racist because it singles out a specific race, black people. It then points out that many are good upstanding citizens, as if there is a significant percentage of black people who are not good upstanding citizens. A sentence like that perpetuates the notion that black people are not good citizens. If you put any other group into a sentence like that you will see what I mean, for example: "There are many Canadians who are educated, literate people." This puts the idea into the back of your mind that there are Canadians who are not educated, and illiterate. |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 5:58:11 PM Actually OldOllie, you should take out the linking verb to make the sentence "pop". A better sentence would be "Many good, upstanding, black citizens exist in society, today." |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 4:49:37 PM It's pointing out a TERRIBLE sentence construction. It should read, "Many blacks are good, upstanding citizens." In my day, turning in a composition with "There are many who are..." would have gotten you an automatic F. |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 3:51:57 PM ?? Not seeing that @Mr Peabody... it looks like an essay on how wrong it is to use crime statistics to demonize all black people. It may not be well written as is, but I wouldn't call it racist... |

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 3:30:37 PM didn't attempt to "correct" it in mine, this person must be using the American dictionary for spell check and grammar check. |
