80+ year old owner couldn't care for kitty anymore. Also fed kitty way too much, apparently.

A cat that eats every day doesn't die of fatty liver disease. It's only after a cat stops eating that they get that particular disease. |

homeless pets (who need adoption)
fat kitties (don't let them get fat!)

Too bad it wasn't a dog.
Fun fact: You can essentially starve a fat dog to get it skinny. Just give it water and exercise and it will catabolize the stored fats rather quickly. Their immune system gets repressed during this, so you have to be careful, but my ex who was a vet had a dog that was so fat it was strangulating the vagus nerve, and after a couple of weeks of no food it got to a more healthy weight. |
