Sunday, May 06, 2012 10:06:11 AM @Buiadh: no, not directed at you bro! I thought it was funny because I'd read that story so recently (it sure didn't happen to me! lolz!). It may not be 'slave labour' but spending money building roads and even whole cities that no one is allowed to use? Rather than, you know, actually helping people who need it? Bad. @simbha: I'm sure China's a wonderful place if you have money, power and privilage! For the 99% who don't? Not so nice. For the 1%? It's about the same. But trust me, the 99% in North America are WAY better off than the 99% in China... |

Sunday, May 06, 2012 5:01:53 AM 5Cats: "Anyone who thinks China is so good is free to move there! Be my guest! I'll help you pack!" I've lived in Shanghai - from part of 2005 to part of 2007. I'm not sure what you're referencing, but the city is extraordinary. In general, the urban areas of China are very much like most other parts of the world. The rural areas, on the other hand, are... well... let's just say they're different. |

Sunday, May 06, 2012 2:48:05 AM @5cats - I assume that was directed at me. No need to be bitter, i didn't say I liked China, I just said that it's not slave labour. |

Saturday, May 05, 2012 5:19:58 PM "I was in China visitng various sights. I saw many men with shovels digging a new road. I asked their foreman why they were using shovels and not bulldozers? 'To employ more workers' he replied with a smile. I asked him why they weren't using spoons then?" I just read this the other day, totally forget who said it. I paraphrase heavily of course. Anyone who thinks China is so good is free to move there! Be my guest! I'll help you pack! |

Saturday, May 05, 2012 3:33:44 PM Not impressed. Built by a dictatorship by what amounts to slave labor. See an excellent Ayn Rand essay called "The Monument Builders." |
