@5Cats This really can't be the only way to train cops. There are countless studies and videos observing the behavior while on these substances. This is outrageous on so many levels. And btw, all the studies done in the early days of LSD were before it was made illegal. It was those very studies that lead to its prohibition. At this point there is no excuse for taking drugs off the streets, creating collateral damage along the way (drug cartels, turf warfare, lacing of drugs)and then going back out into the streets and giving it to users. |

Now they just said you must be 18 or older so it's not like they are grabbing up 12 year old kids outside a school and getting them high. I don't see the big deal with cops getting people legally ripped so they can check out some of the obvious physical signs of substance abuse in person vs a text book... |

Okay, on the one hand, you get free drugs, but on the other hand, you have to hang out with a bunch of buzzkill cops while you're doing them.

Not sarcastic @Cajun: Before it was made illegal, LSD was easy to make! (Now the ingredients are 'controlled' eh?)
The FBI went around showing students how to make it, it's true! The US Army did TONS of tests on "volunteers" over the years, British Army too.
@unmercyfuldu (and @Crakr too) It's a lawyer thing: like in my story below, if the cops aren't "trained" then there's a possible loophole.
If drugs (even just pot) were legal, they'd need to know who's stoned in a "legal" sense, not just guesswork.
Look at the bright side: No one was hurt & it might be the first step towards legalization! |

Smoke a little weed and ask them if they have any idea how fast they were driving, start acting like you are the supreme authority of the land, ask lots of intrusive questions ,trample peoples rights and act like there's nothing wrong with it, if someone needs to see you in a hurry show up four hours later and act like you're doing them a favor by showing up at all, ask them if they mind if you search their vehicle and ask for lots of doughnuts. |

If you're not being sarcastic then it is an outright blatant double standard. When cops and law enforcement does research with narcotics it's okay, but academic research is bad and unsafe! |

This happened to a couple friends of mine about 7 years ago. They got picked up and was illegally frisked on the sidewalk. Weed was found, they were told they could smoke it all in front of them before they take some sort of test. They were brought in, took the test and released. I didn't know that is still going on! |

Oh yeah, and cops don't have the ability to watch video, because the is no footage of people on drugs anywhere... And the smell of drugs cannot be reproduced unless someone gets high. |

I just did offer an 'explaination' but if you'd rather the pigs were ignorent and grabbed innocent folks for 'walking funny' that's up to you.
Agreed @leesah: But since the OWSers are sleeping in the park anyhow, why not drop them off "at home" eh? It's not like the cops drop them at the parent's house, all coked up! lolz!
It's a perfect opportunity to improve piggy training. |

& if, in fact, weed is ever going to be made legal, the officers will need to know how to put together and conduct a fair sobriety field test on people who may be high, just like the tests for people who may be drunk. This honestly isn't that big a deal as the Occupy movement wants you to believe. |

......it's a clearly explained test that people are willingly volunteering for so the cops can get practice identifying stoners (making them less likely to accidentally arrest you for no reason). The release could have been handled better than dropping stoned people off on the corner but I'll be you anything they cops make the testees sign forms saying they're fine to leave (and if you're not fine to leave you should let someone know and NOT sign the form). It's just like every other consumer product trail you can sign up for, except this one stars weed. -c- |

Well, it makes sense, in a perverted twisted way...
There was a court case here in Winnipeg, many years ago, where a guy was hauled in for "pot smell" in his car. There was pot there, but he got his case dismissed!
He successfully argued that cops were not trained to "smell pot" and produced 3 things (Albanian Cigarettes, some incence) that smell JUST like pot, so the search was illegal.
After that: all the cops got "pot smelling training" LOLZ!
So here: cops are getting training in what stoned people look like.
It's a good thing actually, since sometimes people with disabilities or illnesses are wrongfully grabbed by cops who think they're "under the influence" |
