I lived in DC for three years and there is an element that is stuck in 60s activism and black nationalism, from which Berry is a left-over.
Part of me can understand it as the life-long black community and their plight is a vestige of slavery and is definitely cast-off from the city's prosperity. The other part of me can't believe that there is any room for this corrupt, bitter element to exist in today's political environment.
And that element is alive and well in DC, not just in Ward 8. The black community kicked out a bi-racial mayor for not taking care of the black community enough. He was replaced by a guy who immediately got busted handing out favors. |

This is something I will never understand. Why the black community expects so little from their leaders. Here's a guy who, as Mayor, gets caught buying cocain, goes to prison and the black community re-elects him. Then he's caught taking bribes so the elect him to Congress. I mean...WTF! Why not demand more of your leadership.
Then again... white people have Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich so I should probably shut up now. |
