Wednesday, May 02, 2012 8:25:09 AM "The insulation on power lines cracks over time" I'm sorry, what? You don't actually think overhead distribution lines are coated in plastic, do you? It's exposed stranded aluminum. It's exposed because, well, you have to provide less resistance to ground than the circuit is already built with before you're in danger, that or crossing bus currents. It's pretty much impossible to ground out a distribution line with a wooden stick. I mean, you do see birds, and shoes, and random other stuff hanging from distribution lines, don't you? They're not bursting in flames because they don't help the current get to ground any easier just by touching the exposed cable. That stick is probably pushing 10million ohms. The pop was either A: dude pushed the B bus cable too close to the A bus cable when he touched it, crossing currents or B: the point of contact was close to an overload disconnect. |

Wednesday, May 02, 2012 4:42:01 AM that lightning one cant be real unless that stick was saturated in water and it looks kind of dry to me, im gonna call it fake Put simply, you're wrong. The insulation on power lines cracks over time and when morons like this guy mess with them. . . they get bit. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 8:31:41 PM "Yeah seriously what kind of stupid do you have to be to be able to think you will walk away after touching some power lines." I've "walked" on live powerline's. The russian is most likely fine though, that was solid wood, if the current was strong enough to go through it, him, the house he was standing on, it wouldn't have sparked at the stick, would've sparked closer to the ground where it jumps from the house to the ground. Since it wasn't, it just blew a disconnect and may have set the stick on fire. Firefighter was pretty good. |
