Tuesday, May 01, 2012 5:34:25 PM Huh... less than 15 million Jews... thought there'd be more. Seems like there's more... OK time for some fun. How about a Holy War! Jews vs. Jehovah's Witnesses. My money is on the Jehovah's Witnesses'. I know, I know, they're outnumbered by 100k, BUT... they all ride bicycles! So they are fit! Jews on the other hand... not known for their athleticism... |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 12:00:06 PM Not really sure why "secular" in included in with "non-religious." A religious person may easily be secular. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 11:44:04 AM elkingo Of course they use the internet. A lot. Try googling 'Indian atheists'. There are many sites for former muslims, but they tend to be more support groups. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 11:41:40 AM "All these religions, beliefs, and followings, and yet the only people atheists have issue with are those within the "Christian" circle." I take it you missed the post yesterday where the atheists and the muslims were yelling back and forth at each other. This country is mainly christian and a large amount of christians have no problem trying to impose their views through gov't that should be neutral on religion so it makes sense the atheists focus on christians. If Christianity had the same influence on society as a whole that Scientology has (very little) atheists would hardly give it notice. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 11:32:29 AM LordJim -- do the people in the cases in which you cite NEVER use the internet or discuss things in public? Weird, that. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 11:18:19 AM elkingo Simply untrue. Atheists living in mainly christian societies (the ones you are probably familiar with) will probably focus on christianity but a passing familiarity with Harris, Dawkins or Hitchens will show a much broader approach. Atheists in a mainly muslim society will be mainly concerned with islam, but will need to be very careful as that can get you killed. Atheists in a mainly hindu society will be concerned with hinduism and the charlatans and faith healers that abound there. Atheists in a mainly Jewish society (i.e. Israel) will be concerned both with islam and with ultra-orthodox jews. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 11:07:55 AM mac, Wiki says that there are 7m+ members actively evangelising but 12m+ attending conventions. So both figures could be right. But it's fair o ask how he numbers are calculated. The RCC counts anyone baptised as a member, whatever their current opinions, and CofE is still the automatic box tick in the UK for people many of whom have no contact or interest in the church. Still, interesting post. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 9:55:41 AM I don't think the creator is classifying atheism as a religion, they are presenting its numbers as a useful statistic to relate to the categories of religion. |

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 9:23:57 AM I would like to say that the figure out Jehovahs Witnesses is wrong. There are only a lil over 7 million active members. I know this because I am one and saw the figures (*published yearly in the YearBook) last year. Take that for what its worth :p |
