patchgrabber -- I was referring to the 2% difference between chimpanzees and mankind. I understand the other differences you pointed out. I simply don't think there is enough evidence to support the claim, "Everything evolved from 1 common ancestor." To me the null hypothesis should be, "We must assume that everything did not evolve from the same species." I simply think that there isn't enough evidence to reject that null.

2% variation in DNA results in a completely different species

First of all, "species" is a subjective term we use to distinguish organisms, the criteria are arbitrary. Second, a 2% difference in genetics is a massive change. One SNP can code a completely different protein and thus have a vast impact on physiological processes, as is evidenced by some forms of cancer. Also, human chromosome 2 is a product of end-to-end fusion of 2 ancestral chromosomes, which if unfused would give us the same number of chromosomes as other Hominidae.

Rick_S, "I'll be happy to let you witness to me, and try to convert me to your point of view, right after you let me "witness" to you, and try to convert you to my point of view."

How do I go about contacting you, I would love to hear your thoughts and point of view.

I should clarify --

I wasn't meaning the book by Darwin, I was meaning the concept of speciation, in general. There just isn't enough conclusive scientific evidence to accept the notion that all current species came from 1 ancestor. Also, the notion of speciation doesn't make a lot of scientific sense. 2% variation in DNA results in a completely different species, yet I interpret science as suggesting that they all evolved from 1 species? I don't buy that argument.

I might buy that evolution takes place in animals to make them more fit for their environment, which results in change over time. However, the case for speciation has not been entirely made. However, research still progresses, and we get a clearer picture each day.

Your argument is nullified by the fact that both agnostic atheists and agnostic theists exist.

In point of fact, I agree completely with your usage of "agnostic" as it has nothing to do with belief. My comment was to show the logical inconsistency with Simbosan's definition of "agnostic."

"Problem is, the current laws of science DO NOT allow our universe to have a place of origin."

So everything had to start from something? How does religion answer that question? Everything came from God? Then where did God come from? Same problem.

"Truth be told, we don't know."

By that same logic, truth be told we don't know there isn't an invisible 4 headed purple tiger in my attic that will give me skittles if I read the entire Encyclopedia brittanica backwards.

"I assume you were responding to my comment, but my logic is thus: If someone says they're agnostic, and you ask them "Is there a God?" They'll say "I don't know." If you then ask them "Do you BELIEVE in God?" They will either respond "No." or "I don't know." Either way, they don't believe in God and are therefore atheists."

Your argument is nullified by the fact that both agnostic atheists and agnostic theists exist. Admitting that we couldn't possibly know what god is is not a disbelief.

Bullpoo, Just because you don't know, doesn't mean you don't believe. I am an agnostic and play the devil's advocate over religion mostly, mainly because I don't care. But I'm not an atheist. I'm just not smug or full of myself enough to be one yet, and can care less if people wish to have any religion they want to.

Actually agnostic means you acknowledge that you don't know

Actually agnostic means you acknowledge that you don't know. a-gnosis without-knowledge. Is Greek mate. A-theism means without-god, and means you actually believe there is not a God, which to my mind makes the same error as the theist.

Truth be told, we don't know.

Problem is, the current laws of science DO NOT allow our universe to have a place of origin.

Untrue. There are many theories on origin of the universe, such as Steady State, Plasma theory, Inflation Universe, Big Bounce, Cyclic Universe, Big Bang, Nebular or Dust Cloud Theory, Big Crunch Theory.

Newton's third law is that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so motion cannot start without a driving force.

True, but you fail to consider things we know little about, such as dark energy, which is a large component of space. Just because we haven't figured it all out yet doesn't mean we won't.

Oh, and by the way, when you said you're agnostic, that doesn't mean you aren't atheist. If you "don't know" whether God exists, then you're an atheist.

The way I see it, that atheist goat isn't grumpy, he's just kinda sad that a little kid has come to his door to to proselytize when he just wanted to enjoy his morning joe in a bathrobe.

What ever you do, do not let them utter the words "God is like Santa for grown-ups" or your faith may be smashed to smithereens.
