RevWubby: You're confusing 'slavery' with 'servitude'. Servants are not Slaves, Servants were treated like family, they learned a trade, they were not permanently servants, unless they wished to remain so. Slaves in the pre-civil war US south, were treated as property, beasts of burden and had no chance for freedom unless they escaped north.

The pharaohs of Egypt enslaved the Jews much the same way, God sent Moses to free them, God hated that slavery so much he beset the Egyptians with plagues until pharaoh relented and freed them.

I believe it's rather clear that God and the Bible do NOT support slavery.

and after the 60 days period the US were just providing refueling assistance and surveillance.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! You SO funny @Tekinette! All those bombs they dropped were... training accidents!@

a genocide is a good one if you ask me

@Tekinette: There was a THREAT of genocide in Libya. Loyalist forces did indeed capture Reble towns and NO genocides occured.
Meanwhile in Syria: ACTUAL GENOCIDE is still going on. Why isn't Obama helping? Oh right: NO OIL!
It's fine to initiate the actions, if justified, BUT you gotta put in before Congress, even if it's over before 60 days, and it was NOT.

Kofi Annan =/= The UN. Annan and his son were getting paid millions by Saddam, it's a fact. The UN passed a resolution allowing member nations to enforce the cease-fire agreement, and they did!

The Constitution did to slavery in 2 sentences and 20 years what the Bible couldn't do in 55 books and 1800 years.

Let's stop comparing an actual war and a military intervention that cost the US the equivalent of one day of the Iraq war. The president is allowed to send troops without congressional approval if there is an emergency (a genocide is a good one if you ask me) and after the 60 days period the US were just providing refueling assistance and surveillance.

P.S : The UN didn't approve the Iraq war, Kofi Annan himself called it illegal.

Sort of on topic: Abraham Lincoln was the worst president this country has ever seen - discuss.

"In the case of Iraq, by scaring the crap out of congress and the American people with lies. Three words why we should not vote a Republican back into the Presidency - Politics of Fear."
At least he followed the rules of the constitution. Democrats have been just as bad at pulling the "Politics of Fear" card in the past. For someone who claims to avoid partisan politics and news, you certainly are using the same buzz words and arguments that the MSM likes to use.

@macbooze: You completely failed at reading: Bush DID get congressional approval, AND UN permission for Iraq. Obama had neither, and that violates the US constitution, get it?
Vietnam was started by a Democrat, Kennedy, and expanded by Johnson, another Democrat. It was ended by Nixon, a Republican.
Actually it was started by the French, who surrendered...
That's rather outstanding mental gymnastics.

Pot:Kettle:Black

@markust: So getting proper constitutional athority makes Bush a 'war criminal' but NOT getting it makes Obama a hero?
I KNOW you're not saying that but MANY other IABers have, ok?

5Cats, it's positively absurd you excuse both wars in Vietnam or Iraq as not needing an explicit declaration of war by Congress but criticize the constitutionality of the Libya intervention. That's blindly partisan.

Yes, 5Cats, the Shrub did get congressional approval for Iraq...by lieing to them about the threat they posed. And POTUS can wage war...he just can't call it that. Vietnam was not a "war" it was a "Police Action".

@Gerry1, are you getting all political? lolz!
The PotUS does NOT have the power to declair war. ONLY Congress has that. The PotUS can order an 'emergency military action' but it must pass Congrees within 60? 80? I forget how many days or it's unconstitutional!
Bush got Congressional approval for both Afghanistan AND Iraq, with a majority of Democrats voting yes!
Obama did not get approval, ever, for Libya.

Several courts have ordered that the EPA (or whomever it is) sign liscences for off-shore drilling in US waters. The White House (Obama) has ignored them all. THEN they ordered a "5 year study" of the Atlantic waters, effectively preventing ALL new drilling there for 5 years.
Un-Constitutional abuse of powers.

Guantanimo Bay, still open!
Libya attacked in DIRECT violation of the Constitution.
Court orders ignored.
Drones used to kill US citizens.

GitMo has been a base for a long time. Yes, they should release prisoners of war...when the war is over but last time I checked we were still fighting in Afganastan.

Libya - where in the constitution does it say we can't attack Libya? We've done it before. Hell, it was such a great battle it's in the Marine Corps hymn "from the halls of montezuma to the SHORES OF TRIPOLI"
Court orders ignored? Which ones? If a court order is in appeal, it's not being ignored, it's 'pending'.
Drones killing US citizents. Damn Right! If they pick up a gun and fight on the side of the enemy then they get shot at just like every other enemy. Police shoot people who shoot at them... no differant just because it's the army doing it.

"Jon Stewart can be pretty funny, but how do I know this is not something that was written by one of his team of writers?"

Because it was part of the interview, not the sketches.

"He means..." As always 5 Cats, what you want someone to be saying, and what reality is, differ.

"He is a comedian first and a news pundit second" ... and yet Daily Show has more well informed viewers than any other show. We need better news pundits, not worse comedians.

WTF? Jon Stewart is way off on this one. The government treats the constitution in the same way that Christians treat science.

Sure we'll just forget how Ronald Reagan pissed on the constitution when he funneled illegal funds to the Contras, or Bush calling it "just a goddamn piece of paper", right? (ok...the Bush thing has never been proven to be %100 accurate)

Fortunately the constitution is less than 250 years old, so unlike the Bible the language is very modern.
