I mean... obviously you don't want to be a brazen non-nice individual about subjects that are sensitive to people... for example, I'm not going to make an orphan joke in front of an orphan, and then be like "Dude, why aren't you laughing? I know your parents were murdered, but this sh*t is COMEDY GOLD."
But at the same time there are people who take it way over the top. You're not allowed to mention that bad things exist in the world. You're not allowed to mention them in your rhetoric or humor, even if the joke isn't at the expense of the victim, but rather takes a stab at the awfulness of the situation and uses laughter as a means of making the horror easier to swallow.
Which is just foolish. We need humor--it keeps us from going insane. It helps us deal with the things that keep us up at night. That's why it's there. |
