I always thought of it as a public service announcement that says "I'm an as s" So people can know from a distance without wasting ten seconds of their lives talking to them to find out. I for one appreciate the little nuances that telegraph a thuggish mentality. |

This is actually entirely untrue. They would hand out 'one size fits all' pants, so obviously many of them were saggy as poo. But i'm ok with everybody believing this is what it means because people who wear their pants like that should probably be raped. |

No, this is a lie. Saggy pants originated in prison because the clothes there aren't made specifically for each inmate's size needs, and they aren't allowed to have belts because of the suicide risk.

I had always heard that it started because it made them look shorter. If you sagged your pants while committing a crime, the description of the person was several inches shorter than you, excluding you from the list of "usual suspects." |
