"I'm impressed when I see a real helicopter doing that..."

When they are autonomously controlled, maybe. That's only a small step from being armed with missiles.

I'm supposed to be impressed by this but all I see is a buzzy propeller thing flopping around in the air.

@Steelgrid, you obviously didn't read davymid's post correctly. He was saying it doesn't make sense to reverse it because it would be just as difficult.

DavyMid, this video is not in Reverse, nor fake. It is a collective pitch RCHeli. It is rather quite easy once you get brave enough to put the thing in stunt mode and attmept it. Stunt mode (Or stunt settings on some Controllers) move the throttle from just Off/High to a Down/Hover/Up setting. Pretty much this allows you to increase the throttle into the UP position, quickly pull back and when going into the invert, quickly snapping to the DOWN position, but since its upside down it gives it lift allowing it to fly upsidedown. Easy to learn, VERY hard to master.

From some of my other buddies I have seen do this, this is rather sloppy. Very choppy controls, half done tricks, very LARGE inversion flips due to caution and so on. Look at videos for the McpX on youtube and see how people can get these things flipped withing 3 inches of takeoff.

This vid reminds me of an argument I got into about 8-10 years ago on IAB (yes, I'm that sad) on a post from this same pilot, if I remember correctly.

His point was the video was clearly fake, as it was obviously played in reverse. I tried to point out how flying a f*cking RC helicopter upside-down was no easier whether it was played forward or in reverse.

No dice. Anyways there's my taxi. Shutting up now.

Though I got to be fair, Sorry didnt think of this till after the first post, the Trex series, especially with the flybar is less suseptable to the Torus vortex effect. Pretty much when you are descending, especially close to the ground, the rotor can create a "Dognut" of air that wraps around the rotor and provides less lift. This can cause a sudden drop in altitude and if you are not familiar with how it feels, can wreck your flight.

I was never a fan of the Trex 600 or 700. Too bulky and expensive to fix WHEN you crash, and yes, you will crash when flying a collective pitch heli.

WHile its great to be able to fly outdoors in a good deal amount of wind, I can still pull off all of these tricks with my McpX indoors when its raining. Great for parties and the such. Plus the repairs in the odd crash only range in the 20$ mark as the only things you are bound to break is the struts, swash plate or Rotor wings.

Though to be fair, the Trex is incredibly more stable and easier to hover inverted than the McpX, but thats half the FUN!!

robosnitz: No pilot in a real helicopter would be able to endure the G forces of a ride like that. I also don't believe a human sized helicopter could endure that kind of stress on it's airframe, blades and engine either.

i mean it was cool... but after you've watched 10 seconds of it the other 4 minutes is just mindless repetition.

I once knew of a chopper pilot in 'Nam who did this *exact* same thing, only he was in a Huey, carrying 8 injured Marines and he kept cutting the engine to save on fuel.
